Risk Lead

The Risk Lead will support Wise with enhancing the UK Risk function, with particular focus on financial risks. This role reports into Global Head of Financial Risk. You will manage one resource and work closely with Group Risk, Treasury, Finance, Operations. We are looking for someone who can apply deep understanding of UK regulation to our UK legal entities, while helping them to maintain effective oversight of Group-delivered services, controls and intragroup dependencies.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Act as a trusted deputy to the UK CRO, helping run Risk function and deputising in relevant governance forums where appropriate

  • Lead second-line oversight of the UK financial risk framework

  • Provide robust review and challenge of first-line treasury and finance activities

  • Own or oversee relevant financial risk policies, KRIs, limits and playbooks

  • Advise relevant UK committees on emerging financial risks, balance sheet resilience, risk appetite and KRI usage, and management actions

  • Support oversight of material Group services and intragroup arrangements delivered to the UK entities, ensuring clear ownership, service expectations, escalation routes, assurance activity and remediation tracking

  • Lead, coach and the UK financial risk team as appropriate, while working with the Operational Risk Manager to maintain a consolidated view of material issues, incidents, control weaknesses and remediation progress

What You'll Bring:

  • Significant experience and practical knowledge of all financial risks, formed within UK regulated institutions

  • Deep understanding of UK regulatory requirements across different types of licenses

  • Hands-on experience designing, reviewing or challenging risk methodologies, including quantitative modelling, management actions and Board-level interpretation

  • Experience working with Treasury, Finance and first-line risk owners on balance sheet risk management and strategy, ALCO materials, risk appetite

  • Strong understanding of how risk frameworks, policies, KRIs, limits, controls, issues, incidents, assurance activity and service dependencies fit together in regulate institutions

  • Good understanding of outsourced, intragroup or third-party service arrangements, especially where material services, technology, data or controls are provided by another part of the group

  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide independent challenge while remaining pragmatic and constructive
