Risk Management Specialist I

The Opportunity:

UCF's Office of Risk and Safety seeks a Risk Management Specialist I to join their team. The Risk Management Specialist I plays a key role in supporting the administration of UCF’s comprehensive insurance and risk management program. Reporting to the Manager of Risk and Insurance, this position supports the oversight of 40+ insurance policies, assists with renewals and reporting requirements, ensures accurate tracking and resolution of claims, and supports the university’s information management systems.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and self-motivated professional who enjoys working with complex data, managing documentation-heavy processes, and collaborating with campus partners to support risk mitigation efforts across the university.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the management of the university insurance program to include comprehensive and technical review of insurance documents, maintenance of insurance schedules, insurance application input collection, insurance schedule additions and deletions, and regular and timely reporting for insurance policies.

  • Conducts event safety risk assessments for potentially hazardous events (i.e. SAFE Forms); review focused on certificate of insurance compliance, event waiver usage, and special hazard (i.e. alcohol, animals, etc.) review prior to events along with escalation of event when required. Serves as the primary risk management partner for event organizers.

  • Supports management of the university's Risk Management Information System (RMIS) by entering and updating data related to claims and insurance policies and identifying opportunities to improve usage of platform for better risk management.

  • Aids with management of university volunteer program by managing associated volunteer registration technology system, providing guidance to internal departments on volunteer criteria based on university policy, troubleshooting and assisting with registration, pulling reports and conducting research when needed.

  • Manages administrative tasks such as mail and email mailbox inquiries, filing, inter-department communication, creation and update of departmental procedures and guidelines, and projects involving students’ workers and/or interns.

  • Supports university's self-insurance program administration, including monitoring and resolution of claims, maintenance of internal self-insurance guidelines, collaborating with internal departments and external parties as needed.

  • Manages the certificate of insurance (COI) compliance process by collecting and tracking insurance documentation, identifying and communicating gaps to internal and external parties, utilizing tracking software to monitor policy expirations, and collaborating with internal departments on COI education and compliance.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting insurance, risk management, claims processing, underwriting, or related functions.

  • Familiarity with reviewing or processing Certificates of Insurance (COIs) or related insurance documentation.

  • Experience using risk management, claims, or insurance-related systems (Origami Risk or similar platforms).

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel to track, organize, and maintain data in a high-volume environment.

  • Experience managing heavy documentation processes, including tracking deadlines, identifying gaps, and following up with stakeholders.

  • Professional certifications or licenses such as 4-40, PCSR, CCSR, or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) are a plus.

The most successful candidates may possess:

  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing technical or compliance-related documentation.

  • Ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal departments and external partners.

  • Sound judgment and ability to identify and escalate potential risk or compliance concerns.

  • Self-motivation and accountability in managing independent workstreams.
