Safety and Occupational Health Specialist

Accomplishes projects of a complex nature independently which require conducting in-depth studies and developing guidelines and procedures where coverage is inadequate or nonexistent.

Responsible for development, implementation and maintenance of Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) initiatives, tasks and required elements and sub-elements for the region.

Conducts safety inspections and mishap investigations and implements interim controls as required.

Provides technical advice and assistance to management regarding safety issues while serving as a VPP/OSHA subject matter expert in support of a wide variety of OSHA/VPP committees staffed by employees and managers.

Prepares trend analysis reports for hazard elimination and recommendations to management officials to implement new techniques, methods, and procedures to eliminate or control unsafe acts/conditions via pre-use analysis.

Develops written procedures in Safety and Occupational Health.

May serve as Radiation Protection Officer (RPO), or Alternate RPO for the depot, command emergency manager, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) manager, Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) and Machine Guarding Program manager.
