Job Description

Job Summary:
The Student Finance Assistant plays a key role in managing the financial operations of over 100 registered student organizations. This position assists with approving payment requests, reconciling purchases, and ensuring all financial transactions comply with university and departmental policies. The provide reliable, high-quality service to peers and maintain strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve payment requests and reconciliations submitted by student organizations in accordance with university guidelines.
  • Host Finance Office Hours for P-Card checkouts and budget support.
  • Track and file receipts, P-Card logs, and supporting documents.
  • Assist with check requests, deposits, and budget transfers.
  • Maintain and update spreadsheets and budget summaries.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with student organization leaders regarding financial procedures, deadlines, and discrepancies through emails and in-person during office hours.
  • Monitor financial compliance to ensure purchases follow university and Center for Student Involvement policies and SOBAC guidelines.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to student leaders to promote responsible fiscal management.
  • Support training sessions or workshops related to student organization finance management.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned by professional staff.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with student leaders and staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Basic understanding of or interest in finance, accounting, or business principles.
  • Familiarity with student organization structure and operations.
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn relevant software and platforms, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel), SpiderCentral/CampusGroups, Box, and Slack.
  • Commitment to adhering to university policies and financial guidelines.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative, problem-solving spirit.

Requirements:

  • Must be available to work between 1-6 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Must be a full-time, degree seeking University of Richmond student
  • Commitment to confidentiality, especially with sensitive information
