SE LALIS Digital Content Assistant

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Department of Latin American, Latino, & Iberian Studies (LALIS) is looking to hire three students to help plan, create, and distribute content for its social media accounts and other marketing channels. Student employees would assist with capturing and editing photography and video of LALIS events, monitor LALIS’s social media accounts, and assist with other digital and on-campus marketing tasks as assigned. This job requires a keen awareness of engaging social media content, close attention to detail, and a high level of accountability. Digital Content Assistants should plan to dedicate 3-5 hours per week to the position.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Identify, attend and create content around LALIS events

  • Collaborate with LALIS professors, staff, and other students to create social content that promotes LALIS’s brand and specific events

  • Assist with social media market research, particularly in representing the student voice

  • Distribute event-specific posters around campus

  • Plan and create brand-aligned content (photos, videos, stories) and contribute to executing the social media strategy of LALIS and the University

  • Stay up to date with trends on popular social media channels and best practices

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent English and Spanish writing and communication skills. Portuguese and other languages of LALIS are a plus.

  • Experience with and/or desire to learn the tools necessary to plan and create social media content (Canva, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)

  • Ability to innovate and think creatively

  • Experience in creating engaging content for social media

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strict attention to detail

  • Superior organizational skills with ability to consistently meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently, think critically, and solve problems

  • Eagerness to develop social media skills in an ever-changing environment

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Ability to interact with all levels of students, staff, faculty, and community

Pay Grade: SP Student 3 (starting rate $13.75/hour)

The expectation is to occupy the position for at least one year, ideally two or three.
