Senior Accountant (Construction)

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Accountant with strong knowledge of the construction industry to manage full sets of accounts, project-based cost control, and financial compliance. The role works closely with project teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective cost management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain full set of accounts (AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliation)

  • Handle project-based accounting, including job costing and cost allocation

  • Monitor project budgets, variations, and cost overruns

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and cash flow forecasts

  • Process progress claims, subcontractor payments, and retention sums

  • Ensure timely billing and follow-up on outstanding receivables

  • Prepare GST submissions and liaise with auditors and tax agents

  • Support annual audit and year-end closing

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements

  • Maintain proper filing of financial and project-related documents

Requirements

  • Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent

  • Minimum 4–5 years of accounting experience in construction industry

  • Strong understanding of construction costing, progress claims, and retention

  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks, Xero, MYOB or similar)

  • Good knowledge of GST and local regulatory requirements

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently

  • Good communication skills to liaise with project and management teams
