Senior Accountant

Job Description Summary

As a Senior Accountant, Corporate working for Taylor Morrison, you will provide core accounting support to the Finance Operations Team, serving as a key partner to your Regional Controller and a primary point of contact for an assigned group of divisions. To be successful, the individual must be able to manage multiple deadlines, have strong analytical skills, drive departmental process improvements, be detail oriented, display a high level of organizational skills, and remain flexible as the role continues to evolve.

We trust that as a Senior Accountant, you will: (responsibilities)

  • Manage a high-volume monthly close across multiple divisions simultaneously, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules with hard deadlines each period
  • Serve as the first level of review for staff accountant work product, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policy before escalation to the Regional Controller
  • Perform monthly account analysis and roll-forwards of selected general ledger accounts to ensure balances properly reflect the Company’s financial position in accordance with company policy
  • Review ledger detail, record adjusting journal entries, and prepare supporting schedules for financial statements
  • Support division communication and relationship management for an assigned group of divisions, handling day-to-day correspondence and resolving open items throughout the close as needed
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting deliverables and support the Regional Controller with commentary and variance analysis
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures, internal controls, and SOX requirements; resolve accounting-related issues and escalate as appropriate
  • Review land purchase and sale contracts and support land bank accounting for assigned divisions, ensuring proper accounting treatment is applied and preparing technical memos and audit documentation as needed
  • Provide guidance and support to staff accountants within the scope of direct review of their work
  • Focus on continuous improvement of established processes, controls, and documentation
  • Take on additional responsibilities as the needs of the team and business evolve

About you:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience (public accounting or a corporate accounting/finance role)
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and experience operating within a SOX-compliant environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proficiency with common accounting and business software applications
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing deadlines and work independently within a team-oriented structure

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA license or active CPA candidacy
  • Prior experience in a multi-entity accounting environment
  • Real estate or homebuilding industry knowledge
