Senior Advisor, External Reporting & Analytics (P4)

The Role
As the Senior Advisor, External Reporting & Analytics, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will be responsible for managing financial processes to support accurate and timely financial statements, tax preparation, and agency management reporting. You will be responsible for the management and facilitation with external audit, tax and other external partners as necessary. You will also be a resource for the Finance Division to provide guidance on policy, procedures and accounting processes, serving as a vital role for producing reports and analysis. Lastly, you will provide accounting and control expertise, develop analytical reporting and participate in process improvement and transformation initiatives related to financial reporting, audit and tax compliance.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Lead in financial reporting, audit and tax: 45%
- Manage financial reporting and tax return preparation processes with external auditors and internally
- Facilitate prepared by client list (PBC) for external audit and prepare, review and analyze financial statements and related schedules
- Review reconciliations for compliance with audit requirements and prepare monthly variance analysis
- Facilitate schedule preparation for tax return process and provide advisory services to the team
- Complete impact assessments and project plans for implementing FASB Accounting Standards Update for Not-for-Profit accounting
- Assist in Single Audit support including schedule of expenditure of federal awards (SEFA).
- Facilitate with counterparts in Save the Children International (SCI) on the Foreign Recipient Audit (FRA) and ensure reconciled
Define and complete recurring internal reporting: 25%
- Prepare, review and update of the functional expense allocation on periodic basis
- Analyze functional expenses, discuss with relevant stakeholders and identify improvement opportunities
- Assist in balance sheet review processes and connect with other stakeholders to address reconciling items
- Collaborate with Financial Analysis and Business Partnering team on restricted funding.
- Prepare, review and update agency SEFA report and facilitate updates necessary to support
- Reconcile agency SEFA report to SCI FRA
Lead in NICRA Preparation, Review and Negotiations: 10%
- Prepare agency NICRA submittal packets for sharing to USAID, including analytics on changes of rates year over year
- Support the adjustment processes for finalized and provisional rates
- Communicate to various divisions around our NICRA submittal
- Complete modeling and adjust NICRA model as needed for changing environment
Assist in preparation and revision of finance policies and procedures related to accounting: 10%
- Partner with Finance division on drafting policy, procedures, and improving processes (related to financial reporting and tax compliance).
- Determine accounting treatment for new or unusual transactions, e.g. planned gifts, revenue recognition, leases
- Research accounting and tax requirements, e.g. using IRS or FASB
- Discuss implication to SCUS financial statements of Accounting Standards with KPMG
Supervisory support (cross-cutting): 10%
- Provide reviews of schedules to achieve the above objectives.
- Collaborate with the Advisor, to support proper planning and flow of documents to internal and external stakeholders
- Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission and supports Save the Children values
Required qualifications for the role
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- In-depth knowledge and experience of GAAP (financial statements), IRS regulations, and non-profit management
- Demonstrated experience using best practices within industry, knowledge of internal process and/or external advice to improve financial reporting and management support
- Experience in financial management systems
- Experience working across teams with various levels of financial acumen
- Experience facilitating audit and tax processes and interacting with external firms
- Operational finance experience (supporting programs, country offices, project offices)
- Experience in supporting transformation initiatives
- Ability to provide requirements and complete testing on reports that accommodate reporting needs
- Experience working in an international non-profit organization
- Ability to use technology to increase efficiency
Preferred qualifications for the role
- Finance or accounting degree
- Experience using Agresso and/or Oracle Financial Management systems
Compensation
Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $119,425 - $133,475 base salary
- Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $107,525 - $120,175 base salary
- Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $96,050 - $107,350 base salary
The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
