Senior Associate, Environmental Analyst (Sustainability)

Job Overview

Under general direction of the Senior Manager, Enterprise Sustainability Programs Management, this position supports DFW’s enterprise sustainability, air quality, and zero waste programs. Advances DFW’s Sustainability Management Plan, Airport Carbon Accreditation certification, and Net Zero Carbon by 2030 goal through the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of environmental and sustainability data. Monitors and evaluates performance related to greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, water consumption, waste generation, and biodiversity; identifies trends, risks, opportunities, and improvement strategies to support data-driven decision-making.

Performs emissions inventories and modeling, environmental compliance assessments, technical writing, schematic design review, and field investigations as needed. Develops reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to communicate sustainability performance and recommendations to stakeholders. Interfaces with internal departments, airlines, tenants, and government agencies to support sustainability initiatives and environmental compliance objectives.

What you will be doing:

  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets, and visualizes data related to environmental and sustainability performance, including greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, waste generation, water consumption, and biodiversity indicators; identifies trends, risks, and opportunities to support operational and strategic decision-making; supports annual environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting activities.

  • Analyzes federal, state and local air quality regulations that impact Airport property, planning, and/or operations; performs field investigations and inspections; monitors, measures, and reports criteria pollutants from Airport operations; performs emissions calculations and air modeling; assists with obtaining operational permits; represents the Airport during negotiations with regulatory agencies on permit conditions, variances, or other environmental areas.

  • Develops dashboards, reports, presentations, and data visualizations summarizing sustainability performance metrics, trends, forecasts, and key findings; communicates actionable insights and recommendations to leadership, stakeholders, regulatory bodies, investors, and the public.

  • Maintains databases, software tools, and systems for tracking and reporting sustainability data; ensures data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility; develops performance metrics and analytical tools to support forecasting, benchmarking, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making; prepares, certifies, and submits technical reports to state and federal agencies and certification bodies.

  • Researches emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in sustainability and provides recommendations for innovative solutions to improve performance and address sustainability challenges; develops and delivers training sessions, workshops, and educational materials to raise awareness and build capacity among employees and stakeholders on sustainability topics and initiatives.

  • Reviews construction plans, lease agreements, contracts, and permits for alignment with sustainability policies and compliance with environmental laws, regulations and rules; recommends continuous improvement opportunities to enhance sustainability performance and outcomes

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of sustainability strategies, initiatives, and projects in conjunction with project managers; ensures alignment with organizational objectives and stakeholder expectations; provides documentation, quality control and scheduling as required for the administration and execution of each assignment (i.e., capital funding requests, official Board actions, business case development, grant application, etc.).

  • Participates in community activities and trade show events promoting positive customer relations.

  • Meets with representatives of state and federal agencies and local municipalities; responds to agency requests for information during site visits.

  • Engages with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., employees, suppliers, customers, investors, NGOs, and regulatory agencies) to gather input, build relationships, and foster collaboration on sustainability initiatives.

  • Evaluates the Airport's sustainability and environmental performance through trend analysis, benchmarking, forecasting, and scenario evaluation; identifies emerging risks and opportunities associated with sustainability issues; develops recommendations to improve performance, mitigate risks, and capitalize on opportunities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical or life sciences, environmental science, engineering or related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in environmental operations, environmental analysis, or environmental program administration.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted to the above.

  • Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to pass a medical physical examination.

  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental laws, regulations, and rules.

  • Knowledge of currently accepted environmental testing and sampling procedures.

  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with exposure to asbestos, solid and hazardous waste, contaminated soil, water, and air.

  • Maintains a specialized knowledge and expertise in threatened and endangered species or other protected species management or land management issues, renewable energy facility siting and permitting or NEPA and utilize such knowledge in day-to-day functions including permitting.

  • Ability to operate field monitoring equipment.

  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical data in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and to assess their impact on the operation of the Airport.

  • Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate data from a wide variety of sources and to develop related conclusions, recommendations, and policies.

  • Ability to understand and utilize science, critical thinking, reading comprehension, speaking, active listening, writing, complex problem solving.

  • Ability to exercise coordination, judgment and decision making, active learning.

  • Ability to develop alternative solutions, prioritize, and complete work projects/assignments on schedule and to achieve airport and departmental objectives with limited supervision.

  • Ability to deal diplomatically with customers, employees, and all levels of management.

  • Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to handle multiple and/or fluctuating priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to work individually or as a team member.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain records.

  • Ability to maintain a computerized database.

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended period in inclement weather.

  • Ability to prepare clear, concise oral and written reports and to make formal presentations.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and to maintain harmonious internal and external relationships.

Special requirements:

  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et. Al. and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.

  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug screening test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

  • This is a designated essential employee position as defined in the Categories and Classifications of Employees Policy of the Airport Administrative Policy and Procedure. This is defined as an employee whose attendance is required to maintain airport operations during an emergency or inclement weather situation.

  • Department may designate specific area(s) of environmental experience.

  • Licenses and certifications required by state and federal agencies for the performance of these job duties must be obtained within the time specified by department. Failure to do so may result in termination of employment.

  • Fulfill all training requirements and activities in accordance with Title 14 CFR Part 139 and Administrative Policy AO.014.01, Ground Vehicle Driver Training for Air Operations Area.

  • Uses near-visual acuity in reading technical data.

  • Drives to locations on and off Airport property.
