Senior Automation Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Automation Engineer is a senior technical reference within the team, responsible for delivering advanced automation solutions and guiding engineering excellence across projects. This role combines deep hands-on expertise with strong leadership, promoting best practices, continuous improvement, and high-quality engineering standards while mentoring others.

The position is based in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico.

You might be travelling up to 35% domestic and international 15% of your time.

What you will do

As a Senior Automation Engineer you will:

  • Act as the technical reference for the automation engineering team, providing guidance and expert support
  • Promote best practices, standardization, and continuous improvement across projects and engineering activities
  • Develop and track project engineering deliverables including design, installation, and commissioning and life cycle tasks
  • Interface with account managers and customers to assess requirements and support cost-effective solutions
  • Analyze, design, develop, implement and support automation solutions including PLC, HMI/SCADA, databases and cybersecurity.
  • Configure control systems including PLCs, fieldbus networks, and distributed I/O
  • Develop electrical schematics, control panel concepts, and system architecture
  • Participate in design reviews and safety risk assessments
  • Lead and support automation activities during installation, commissioning, and performance testing
  • Troubleshoot complex automation, electrical, and integration issues
  • Mentor and coach other engineers to strengthen team capabilities
  • Conduct customer training and ensure successful system handover
  • Ensure compliance with local and client standards, and internal quality processes

We believe you have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience with industrial automation systems in processing environments
  • Strong proficiency in PLC and HMI/SCADA programming (Rockwell / Tetra Pak standard preferred)
  • Experience with MES systems, databases, and virtualization technologies
  • Working knowledge of ISA-S88 and ISA-S95 standards
  • Strong electrical design and troubleshooting capability (up to 600 VAC) and pneumatic systems
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex technical challenges
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts
  • Ability to act as a technical leader and influence teams through collaboration and knowledge sharing across boundaries
  • Passion for continuous improvement and driving engineering excellence
  • Fluency in English & Spanish. Nice to have Portuguese and/or French.
