Senior Civil Design Engineer

WSP currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer with strong Design experience to join our Sydney office.

Due to sustained growth, our Sydney office are looking to engage a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join our Property and Buildings group.

What you'll do

You’ll scope and steer civil works from concept through detailed design and construction support, coordinate inputs from roads, drainage, utilities and pavements, and bring a pragmatic eye for buildability, safety and whole‑of‑life performance. You’ll be a trusted advisor to clients and partners—facilitating workshops, de‑risking decisions, and shaping clear, compliant deliverables—while mentoring our emerging engineers and championing digital design and quality standards. Key responsibilities:

  • The opportunity to work on iconic projects within a multi-disciplined engineering team to deliver a range of civil engineering design projects.
  • Work in a high impact, market-facing and civil engineering delivery focused role.
  • Manage ongoing communication and highly effective professional relationships with local clients.
  • Lead and deliver current civil engineering projects from inception through to construction in support of technical and commercial standards, and within time constraints and cost budgets.
  • Work in a varied, hands-on role with a leadership angle across design management, superintendency and site surveillance.
  • Partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders and be committed to team approach and outcomes.
  • Provide sound technical/delivery guidance for the team
  • Mentor, train and develop the careers of junior engineers

About you:

  • Bachelor to Masters’ level degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 7-10 years industry experience in the Property and Building space.
  • Excellent expertise in civil engineering and design documentation, including sound working knowledge of Australian Standards and Codes (AS/NZS 3500, NCC etc.);
  • Commercial experience in Australia on local medium/large building civil engineering projects in a consulting environment is essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Design software eg; 12D, Civil 3D etc.
  • Well versed in effectively delivering multiple, concurrent projects ranging in scale and sector, e.g. commercial, residential, industrial, land development, subdivisions and infrastructure/roads;
  • Sound client facing and account/relationship management skills.
  • Excellent project management skills, including managing civil engineering teams.
  • Highly developed customer-focus, leadership, teamwork, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Chartered status with Engineers Australia.
