As a Senior Credit Risk Manager, you will combine analytical depth, commercial judgement, governance discipline, and strategic thinking to influence decision quality across the full credit lifecycle. You will partner closely with teams across Product, Pricing, Technology, Operations, Distribution, Collections, and L1 and L2 Risk to design, evolve, and optimise credit strategies that improve customer outcomes and strengthen portfolio performance.
You will lead complex credit problems end-to-end, from framing ambiguous issues and diagnosing portfolio performance through to shaping strategy direction, driving implementation, monitoring outcomes, and refining decisions over time. This requires ownership across the full credit lifecycle, balancing strategic thinking with practical execution and operational delivery.
Beyond hands-on delivery, you will play a critical leadership role in uplifting capability across the team. You will coach and support through collaboration, peer review, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing, contributing to a strong culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, connecting insights across the credit lifecycle, and driving meaningful portfolio and business outcomes through disciplined, credit risk practice while building the capability and maturity of the function.
Key responsibilities for this role includes:
Credit strategy design evolution & optimisation
Shape credit strategy across originations, account management, and collections, balancing growth, risk appetite, customer outcomes, and portfolio performance.Build portfolio insight and drive strategy response
Connect views across the credit lifecycle to identify risks, diagnose performance shifts, and drive timely strategy changes that strengthen outcomes.Strengthen governance and decision quality
Embed disciplined governance practices, testing, validation, and post-implementation review to ensure strategies operate effectively in productionDrive analytics and continuous improvement
Use data and analytical tools to improve decisioning, deepen portfolio understanding, and identify opportunities to strengthen credit strategies and ways of working.Coach and develop the team
Support the team through technical guidance, peer review, and knowledge sharing. Help strengthen the quality and maturity of credit risk delivery across the function.
What you'll bring
Deep credit risk experience, ideally in retail lending
Strong understanding of credit strategy design, portfolio dynamics, and financial risk drivers including provisions, losses, recoveries, and return outcomes
Strong analytical capability, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights, strategic recommendations, and portfolio actions
Strong skills in SQL, Python, SAS, Excel, Tableau, or similar tools used for analysis and performance monitoring
Experience working with modern data platforms (for example BigQuery, Snowflake, or similar cloud-based environments)
Demonstrated experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives and influencing strategic decisions or governance forums
Sound understanding of Australian retail credit portfolios, including key segments, performance drivers, and the broader risk landscape
Well-developed judgement and structured thinking; ability to balance commercial outcomes with prudent risk management
Demonstrated ability to coach, guide, and develop other credit risk specialists through technical guidance and knowledge sharing
Excellent problem-solving and stakeholder management skills, with confidence working across business and risk teams at multiple levels
A curious and collaborative mindset, strong sense of ownership, and genuine interest in strengthening and modernising credit risk practice
A tertiary qualification in a quantitative, analytical, commercial, legal, technology, or related discipline is valued, or equivalent practical experience
