Now, here’s what we’re building, and where you come in.

About Relay

For decades, enterprise technology has focused on the 20% of workers sitting behind desks, while the 80% who power the physical economy have been left behind in an analog void. Relay is fixing the "Operational Black Hole" by providing an Intelligent System of Action (SOAR) that connects frontline teams. We are replacing disconnected legacy radios with rugged, AI-powered smart devices that run on our patented Steady Link™ network, enabling teams to communicate, stay safe, and convert voice into operational data.

As we rapidly scale and expand our enterprise footprint across Manufacturing, Steel, Food & Beverage, and Logistics, we require a highly experienced, strategic technical leader to architect, lead, and optimize our largest and most complex physical rollouts.

The Role: Your Mission

As a Senior Deployment Systems Engineer (Sr. DSE), you are the principal technical architect and quarterback for Relay’s largest, most strategic, and multi-faceted enterprise deployments. When a Tier 1 enterprise customer purchases thousands of Relay devices for a multi-site rollout, you own the technical vision, the physical infrastructure, and the overall execution strategy to ensure success.

You sit within our Solutions organization alongside Solutions Engineers (SE). While the SE secures the technical win, you design, implement, and govern the system-wide deployment. You will leverage your expertise to proactively ensure the customer's facility has the optimal power load, scalable charging infrastructure, and resilient network capacity to support our devices, and you will coordinate and set the timing of hardware delivery and software integration across multiple workstreams. Over time and as our DSE team scales, you will also mentor junior DSEs and contribute to global deployment standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Principal Deployment Architect & Quarterback: Serve as the overall technical project lead and decision-maker from the moment a massive, strategic deal closes through full operational deployment. You are accountable for the seamless handover from Solutions Engineering, the strategic coordination of activities with Customer Success, and the development and governance of the end-to-end implementation plan for Forward Deployed Engineering.
  • Advanced Infrastructure & Network Design: Lead and conduct complex, multi-site audits and deep-dive technical assessments to validate the customer's enterprise IT and physical infrastructure readiness. This includes expert-level assessment of Wi-Fi 6 and cellular network capacity for Relay's Steady Link™ technology (simultaneous redundant Cell + Wi-Fi connectivity), providing authoritative guidance on sophisticated firewall configurations (e.g., policy-based routing, QoS), and conducting precise electrical engineering calculations for installing high-density, massive charging stations.
  • Strategic Technical Resource Direction: Strategically identify, scope, and direct custom software development requirements (e.g., integrating Relay with a customer's ERP, WMS, or bespoke IoT sensors). As we scale, the vision is that you will deploy, mentor, and oversee our to be hired Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) to execute complex coding, ensuring their work is architecturally sound and perfectly aligned with the physical rollout timeline and customers' overall operational goals.
  • Global Hardware Logistics & Staging Oversight: Collaborate strategically with our Supply Chain team to establish and govern provisioning, staging, and shipping protocols for thousands of MIL-STD 810H, IP68/69K devices, ensuring consistent, on-time delivery and meeting or exceeding our demanding 48-hour operational SLAs.
  • Establish and Govern the Onboarding Center of Excellence (CoE): Take a foundational, leadership role in scaling our Onboarding CoE. You will author, review, and govern repeatable technical deployment playbooks, standards, and best practices that significantly optimize Time-to-Value (TTV) and drive down COGS across diverse and challenging segments like Steel, Specialty Logistics, and Hospitality, and be responsible for the technical training of the Solutions team.

Who You Are / What You'll Need:

  • Deep Systems Architecture & Governance Expertise (8+ years): You possess a veteran-level, holistic understanding of complex enterprise networking (including expert-level knowledge of Wi-Fi 6, advanced Cellular Systems like DAS/Small Cell, Private and Public Wireless, RF propagation modeling, MAC whitelisting/802.1X, and complex firewall/network policy management) and physical facility infrastructure (power load distribution, industrial low-voltage cabling standards).
  • The Principal Quarterback Mindset & Program Management: You are a proven master of high-stakes, multi-million dollar program logistics and project governance. You can look at a complex, global deployment involving hardware manufacturing, bespoke software integration, and significant physical construction, and architecturally align all moving parts to a consolidated, risk-mitigated "Go-Live" date.
  • Executive Presence and Technical Authority: You are equally comfortable and credible putting on a hard hat to lead a technical walk-through at a steel mill with a VP of Operations, as you are sitting in a boardroom strategically defining security and network protocols with a CISO or IT Director.
  • Massive Scale Hardware / IoT Deployment Experience: Extensive and demonstrated experience architecting and executing the deployment of physical hardware, industrial AV equipment, enterprise networking gear, or complex IoT sensor networks at a massive, multi-site scale.
  • Advanced Cross-Functional Leadership & Fluency: You are a diplomatic leader who can draw clear, accountable boundaries. You have the judgment to know when a systemic problem requires a Principal FDE (software/code architecture) vs. when it requires the CS team (user adoption and workflow training), and you take ownership of driving the resolution through the appropriate channels.
