Senior Design Technician - Lifestyle

Position Description
The Senior Design Technician provides advanced technical expertise and leadership in creating and managing BIM models and documentation. This role involves mentoring other technicians, implementing new technologies and workflows, and ensuring the quality and consistency of BIM deliverables across projects. The Senior Design Technician has a strong understanding of construction, design, and BIM best practices.



Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in an AEC-related discipline from a university, community college, or technical school. Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience, particularly in interior and architecture, with a proven track record of successfully delivering BIM projects



Responsibilities

  1. Design and Documentation
    • Receive sketch concepts from designers and interpret them using BIM software
    • Set up drawings using dwp BIM standards
    • Collaborate closely with architects and engineers on projects
    • Meet deadlines
    • Develop, maintain, and manage complex BIM models for all project stages
    • Create and manage BIM families and content libraries, ensuring consistency and quality
    • Provide technical guidance and support to junior BIM staff
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex BIM-related issues
    • Lead the implementation of new BIM technologies and workflows
  2. Tender and Construction
    • Prepare coordinated Tender and Construction Documentation
    • Assist Designers to develop details and cross-check with other relevant documents including MEP and other consultants
    • Produce and maintain up to date automated Drawing Register from BIM
  3. Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate effectively with architects, designers, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders
    • Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • Lead and attend project meetings, providing BIM expertise and guidance
  4. Administration
    • Coordinate appropriate training needs for BIM staff
    • Coordinate standards with BIM Management and implement them in the studio
    • Oversee and contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of company BIM standards, templates, and procedures
    • Ensure adherence to company and project-specific BIM Execution Plans (BEPs)
  5. Quality Control and Standards
    • Implement and enforce quality control procedures for BIM models and documentation
    • Conduct regular model reviews and audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards
    • Provide training and mentoring to junior staff on BIM best practices
    • Ensure that the Quality Management System is implemented and maintained, and evaluate where continual improvement can be made
  6. Technology & AI Integration
    • Implement the use of approved AI tools, including LLMs and Generative AI in projects
    • Oversee the use of AI tools by the design team to enhance communication, data management, research and information retrieval, and process automation
    • Provide training to the design team to implement the use of AI tools
