Job Overview
The Senior EH&S Specialist leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety programs across the site. Acting as a subject matter expert in environmental compliance and occupational safety, this role independently manages complex EHS initiatives, analyzes safety data to drive improvements, and leads regulatory inspections and compliance activities. The Specialist III collaborates cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and leadership to promote a proactive safety culture. This position reports to the Senior EHS Manager and collaborates closely with Facilities, Operations, R&D, and Engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement programs, safety campaigns, and behavioral safety initiatives
Coordinate and oversee site environmental, health, and safety programs including Injury & Illness Prevention, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Electrical Safety, Fire Protection, Machine Guarding, Hazardous Waste Management, and Stormwater Pollution Prevention
Provide training and guidance on all EHS Training Programs. At this level you will be expected to create and deliver effective training and lesson plans
This position will be expected to determine what SOP/WI’s are required and as necessary, draft the required procedures and have them approved through an established approval process
Conduct proactive risk assessments including Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and safety reviews for new equipment, processes, and facility changes
Lead or support incident response and conduct thorough investigations into workplace injuries, illnesses, and near-miss events to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
Utilizing data provided from the OSHA 300 Logs, Workers’ Compensation trends, and Industry Best Practices, be able to identify trends and establish new and creative ways to reduce injuries site wide
Develop new and improved techniques in Ergonomics to address the trends of injuries/complaints expressed by employees
Lead Safety Committees and successfully continue forward Environmental, Health and Safety Initiatives
Maintain applicable site permits including Hazardous Waste, HMBP, storm-water pollution prevention, and others. Submit permit applications as necessary and play a major role in ensuring all work areas meet Local, State, and Federal regulatory requirements
Maintain the company's chemical inventory and SDS files. Coordinate annual update of chemical inventory
Conduct regulatory evaluations, write reports as required, and report activities to EHS Sr. Manager
Serve as the site lead during regulatory inspections and audits conducted by OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
Assist in ensuring compliance with company policies, Federal, State and local regulations
Develop and track budget information and assist in the preparing of annual site EHS budgetary information
Maintain excellent working knowledge of local, State and Federal Regulations that apply to our operations including but not limited to Federal OSHA, EPA and California Health and Safety Code
Participate in and support Emergency Response, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning
Coordinate site inspections of all departments including documentation and follow-up
Support environmental sustainability initiatives including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and environmental performance improvement
Performs other related duties and assignments as required
Minimum Qualifications
Highly knowledgeable with OSHA, EPA, RCRA, Air Quality, and Water Pollution regulations
Knowledgeable with applicable Electrical Safety Standards (such as NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, etc…)
Hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies (JHA, HAZOP, FMEA)
Ability to influence cross-functional teams and leadership to implement safety improvements
Demonstrated ability to organize work and establish priorities
Effective customer service skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and time pressures
Effective interpersonal skills
Effective written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures

A valid, unrestricted California driver’s license and a clean driving record is required for minimal travel between facilities
Education and Experience
Typically requires a BS/BA in safety or a related discipline
At least 8 years related experience working with Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities
Prior experience implementing or sustaining EHS management systems for example ISO 14001 or 45001
Preferred experience or education in Operational Excellence

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.
