Senior Engineer - Drainage
WSP India is seeking a highly accomplished and motivated Senior Engineer - Drainage to join our Transport & Infrastructure (T&I) business, based in Bengaluru, India. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting our South Africabased Highway and Water teams, contributing to prestigious, high-profile projects across the T&I sector.

WHAT WE DO
The team provides end-to-end expertise across the planning lifecycle: from project feasibility and option appraisals to public consultation, application preparation, supporting inquiries, and examinations, through to preliminary and detailed design.
Our aim is to ensure every design is fully optimised, future-ready, and fit for construction. Our client base includes leading public and private sector organisations across South Africa.
As a Senior Engineer - Drainage, you will:
Serve as a core member of the South Africa T&I team, delivering strategic support from India to develop and deliver projects through various stages of design from concept to detailed design.
Originate, check, and review Drainage design and drawings with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and project requirements.
Work under the mentorship of leaders in India and South Africa, developing expertise while growing Drainage capability in India.
Organise, manage, and deliver work to the highest professional standards, ensuring quality, timeliness, and alignment with WSP’s guiding principles.
Engage in clear, consistent communication with colleagues in both regions; contribute actively to team and project meetings.
Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams, supporting Team Leaders, Line Managers, and Project Managers to ensure seamless delivery.
Take ownership of assigned tasks, demonstrating initiative and research-driven problem-solving.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues, nurturing talent and building strong technical capability.
Support and strengthen client relationships, maintaining regular interaction with South Africa offices.
Leverage the opportunity to be mentored towards attaining professional qualification with globally recognised institutions.
Actively participate in knowledge-sharing forums, both internal and external, and support business development activities including technical input into bids and proposals.

Ensure accurate and timely completion of project timesheets and other documentation.
MANDATORY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Demonstrate a good knowledge of and experience of highway drainage designs including knowledge on SuDS features.
Collaborate with highway geometric design teams to deliver efficient longitudinal drainage solutions aligned with roadway profiles.
Ensure seamless integration of drainage with crossfall and superelevation for effective water management.
Identify and design drainage provisions for critical locations such as low points and sag curves.
Execute the design of side drains, mitre drains, and sub-surface drainage systems based on project-specific needs and standards.
Able to use Autodesk Civil 3D for Surface modelling, Corridor integration, Pipe networks and drainage layouts.
Able to use Autodesk AutoCAD for drawing preparation.
Able to use Hydraulic and hydrological tools such as Hydraflow (Civil 3D integrated), iDAS (or equivalent), HEC-RAS / HEC-HMS, and UPD
Preparation of stormwater layout plans, Longitudinal sections of drainage systems, culvert schedules and hydraulic summaries, typical details and standard drawings, erosion protection details and catchment plans and flow diagrams.
Preparation of Highway drainage methodologies and design basis statements.
Preparation of Technical notes covering Highway drainage specifications
Mentoring and technical support to CAD and engineers to develop drainage drawings and standard details.
Lead and attend design review meetings and progress meetings with Clients.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
Outstanding verbal and written English communication skills; detail-oriented, proactive, and outcome-driven.
Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
Confidence to seek clarification of instructions and work scope.
High level of self-motivation, integrity, and professional ethics.
Strong sense of accountability with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Strong teamwork and coordination abilities, with experience leading and mentoring teams.
DESIRED SKILLS
Recognised professional institution membership (Engineering Council UK or equivalent).
Knowledge of South Africa drainage design standards.
B.Tech. in Civil Engineering or equivalent with good length of relevant experience.
M.Tech in Hydraulics & Water Resources Engineering or equivalent will be given preference.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in Highway drainage and Stormwater drainage designs.
BACKGROUND VERIFICATION (BGV)
Employment with WSP India is contingent upon the successful completion of a Background Verification (BGV) process conducted by a third-party agency authorized by WSP India.
