Job Description\:

Joining the Environmental and Geospatial Information Systems (EGIS) team in Combat Systems, you will lead the technical delivery of projects within this team. EGIS develops a diverse suite of products — from desktop applications to critical at‑sea systems used across the Royal Navy’s vessels.

You will provide technical direction, coach and develop engineers, and ensure high‑quality software delivery across multiple workstreams. Working closely with the Engineering Manager, you will shape priorities, drive engineering excellence and ensure the team delivers secure, reliable and mission‑critical capability to the fleet.

Core duties\:

  • You will lead the design, implementation and testing of EGIS software solutions, applying software engineering expertise to deliver robust and secure capability.
  • You will guide, mentor and support Software Engineers throughout the software lifecycle, helping the team build capability and navigate complex challenges.
  • You will contribute to planning, estimation and reporting, working with the management team to build realistic schedules and communicate progress clearly.
  • You will be meeting the EGIS customers and end users, as required, to enable development of the EGIS Programmes and the continued evolution of the EGIS products as required.
  • You will drive performance improvements through capturing, analysing and acting on system measurements

Essential Skills\:

  • You will have significant experience working in a Software Engineering Environment
  • You will bring team Leading experience to the role; both managing work and reporting on costs
  • You will showcase you're background in software product development and/or delivery, preferably in a large, complex multi-project environment
  • You will be experienced in developing Software within the Engineering Lifecycle

Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution.

Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation.

Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The EGIS Team\:

This is an opportunity for you to join a collaborative team, working on the Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) System, managing the manual input, and automatic collection and measurement of environmental parameters from environmental sensors.

You will be provided the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the delivery of the METOC system to the Type 26 Batch 2 and Hunter(Australia) programmes, based from the Dorchester office.
