Senior Executive - Wharf & Yard Operations - Ports & Terminals - Chennai

Primary Purpose / Objectives

To achieve the Yard side and Ship side targets in coordination with planners / Tower controllers / Gate supervisors / operators and service providers.

Key responsibilities

Functional Requirements:

  • To direct and control the physical activities in Yard, Vessel, Road Queue, ship arrivals and general terminal housekeeping and cleanliness.

  • To work towards achieving the operations KPI.

  • To ensure all staffs wear proper PPE

  • To ensure all the OOG containers are handled with proper gears without delay.

  • To ensure lashers following buddy system while working at pinning /unpinning/onboard/fixing slings/Man cage/ladder,etc.

  • To ensure safety and to achieve incident free shift.

  • To check the lashers /checkers onboard headcount randomly

  • Optimize use of Yard equipments such as RTG Cranes based on terminal lines and container types
  • Inputs provided at the end of the Shift should ensure a smooth transition and handing over process
  • Continuously liaise with the Tower Controller and monitor the movement of the Trucks
  • Ensure safety of all assets at all times during Yard Operations and also manage the code of conduct of all which includesTruckers
  • Responsible for ensuring discipline of all employees and external resources and can take appropriate action against insubordination
  • To ensure that all personnel under your control effectively perform their tasks in achieving daily operational requirements.

  • In compliance with policy liaise with clients and other bodies to ensure that close cooperation and goodwill is maintained between the Company and outside interests.

  • To be able to communicate with a high degree of self-control and effectiveness and ensure that company policy is implemented in practice.

  • To exercise leadership, promote teamwork and to ensure that direct reports as well as employees under their area adheres to Company policy.

  • To provide feedback as required, relating to operational matters and to discuss problems and changes of procedures to enhance efficiency, Safety and cost effectiveness.

  • Any other duties as advised or informed by your superior

Skills and Competencies

  • Graduate in Science and a Diploma in Ports and Shipping from a good Institute

  • Minimum 5 years of experince in Port Operations

  • Knowledge of Terminal Processes and TOS
  • Working knowledge of computer such as MS Office, Excel
  • Outgoing personality with an ability to interact with all levels and a demonstrated ability to get work done
  • Exercise Authority and leadership to ensure time management for work completion
  • Working Knowledge in planning systems like Zodiac.
  • Keyboard skills for data entry.
  • Customer contact skills both face to face and on the telephone
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to the receipt and delivery of containers.
  • Knowledge of client, Customs and regulatory requirements.
