Job Expectations
Build your career and Australia’s future.
Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.
A fantastic opportunity has presented itself for a Senior Field Specialist Critical Infrastructure reporting to the Senior Manager, Critical Infrastructure Resilience & Governance.
This role is open to anyone located in the following areas: Adelaide, Wollongong to Newcastle and Gold Coast to Sunshine Coast.
A bit about your role
As a Senior Field Specialist – Critical Infrastructure, you will play a key role in executing field-based assurance activities across nbn’s critical infrastructure and third‑party technical facilities. Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will conduct site inspections, audits, and technical assessments to ensure facilities meet workplace health and safety standards, regulatory obligations, and operational requirements that underpin network resilience.
You will apply your technical expertise across electrical, HVAC, and building management systems to verify infrastructure condition, identify risks, and drive corrective actions through to resolution. A key component of the role involves managing and verifying WHS cases within nbn systems, ensuring hazards are accurately tracked, triaged, and closed in line with governance requirements.
Partnering closely with internal teams and external service providers, you will support the consistent delivery of safe, compliant, and fit-for-purpose facilities across an expanding portfolio that includes nbn owned and operated technical sites, temporary network infrastructure and other third-party locations housing nbn critical infrastructure. Through your work in the assurance program, you will directly contribute to improving safety outcomes, strengthening compliance, and addressing infrastructure risks that impact service continuity and operational performance.
A bit about you
You are a practical and experienced technical professional with a strong background in critical infrastructure, facilities, or data centre environments, and you take pride in ensuring infrastructure is safe, compliant, and operating effectively. You bring hands-on experience in electrical systems, HVAC, or facilities maintenance and are confident in conducting audits, inspections, and technical assessments within complex operational environments.
With a solid understanding of workplace health and safety legislation and risk management principles, you are comfortable identifying hazards, assessing compliance, and ensuring issues are followed through to resolution. You are organised in your approach and capable of managing competing priorities while maintaining accurate records and reporting to support governance and oversight. You are also able to travel when required supporting assurance and inspection activities across a large geographical region.
You are a strong communicator who builds effective working relationships with field teams, stakeholders, and external partners, and you bring a collaborative mindset when working through technical and operational challenges. Experience with telecommunications infrastructure, building management systems, or control systems will be highly regarded, along with a proactive approach to continuous improvement, learning and safety leadership.
