Senior Foreman

The role of Senior Foreman works within and leads vegetation management operations in the field. They act as the bridge between field operations, client requirements, and safety regulations—especially where electrical utilities are involved while enforcing safety and operational practices. This role acts as a direct support to the General Foreman, providing operational assistance as required to supervise crews in the relevant area of operation, including direct supervision of foremen. The Senior Foreman proactively engages with customers, property owners, and the public. The Senior Foreman reports to the General Foreman and must stay compliant with safety procedures as administered by the Safety Leader.

What you will do:

  • Directs multiple crews or a large single crew in day-to-day work
  • Fills in for gaps in crews as necessary, participating in work as necessary to ensure crew remains operational
  • Conducts pre-job briefings, safety tailboards, and work planning
  • Trains new team members on SOPs, equipment use, and biological/environmental compliance
  • Responsible for performance evaluations
  • Supports the General Forman in the development of the team members, including cross training and the facilitation of career progression for those team members
  • Prioritizes vegetation work based on hazard severity, schedules, and customer needs
  • Reads maps, GIS tools, and utility right-of-way documentation
  • Identifies hazard trees, encroachment risk, and invasive species
  • Ensures proper use of trimming, felling, herbicide application (if licensed), and disposal methods
  • Enforces OSHA/industry safety standards
  • Holds foremen accountable for proper PPE standards, traffic control setup, drop zones, spotters, and ensuring MAD is followed
  • Communicates progress with utility/agency representatives
  • Engages with clients and manages property owner concerns
  • Tracks herbicide usage (if applicable)
  • Supports budgeting and resource planning
  • Manages a crew in place of a foreman if necessary
  • Coordinates with the General Foreman on needed tasks to ensure performance is met for the assigned crews and production
  • Maintains accurate project circuit maps noting project status, crew locations, and estimated completion dates
  • Inspects crews, monitors start and stop times, and identifies project shop locations
  • Previews work assignments and conducts post-work critiques for each crew under supervision. Must be accessible by phone and available to respond to local after-hours storm calls
  • Must be able to assist the General Foreman during weekly Foreman calls by communicating relevant information, updates, and expectations to the team
  • This is a minimum 40 hour work week
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Who you are:

  • High school graduate or GED required
  • 4+ years of experience within the vegetation management industry
  • 2+ years of experience clearing vegetation around power lines and power infrastructure
  • 1+ years of experience leading vegetation management crews required
  • Experience leading multiple teams preferred
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel) preferred
  • Must have an active DOT Medical Card
  • Must have field experience as vegetation management foreman
  • Must have the ability to evaluate circuit conditions and hours required to complete required clearances to utility specifications
  • Must be able to communicate with various levels of field and management personnel and write reports
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of focus, situational awareness, and concentration for extended periods while working safely in and around hazardous equipment and high-risk environments
  • Must be able to wear necessary PPE as necessary
  • Must be able to safely drive bucket and chip dump trucks
  • Must be able to operate the bucket of the bucket truck or mechanical tree trimmer
  • Must be able to use hydraulic tools and hand tools typically used in vegetation management and right of way clearing
  • Must be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold
  • Must be able to traverse various terrains
  • Work demands physical energy, twisting, some lifting ability, and hand-to-eye coordination
  • Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions and information
  • Must be able to communicate and handle confrontations professionally
  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work)
  • Must have knowledge and ability to utilize heavy equipment typically used in vegetation management and right of way clearance
  • Must have transportation to and from the designation reporting location
  • Must be able to travel out of state for emergency storm work
  • Must be able to pass a background check and quarterly Motor Vehicle Records Check (MVR)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license at all times
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a plus
