Senior Full Stack Engineer (Backend Focus)
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer (Backend Focus) based in Brazil.
You will join a fast-paced, product-driven environment supporting a U.S.-based digital health platform focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care experiences. In this role, you will work primarily on backend systems while also contributing across the full stack to support web and mobile applications. Your work will directly impact critical healthcare workflows such as scheduling, payments, clinical systems, and patient communication. The environment is highly technical and mission-driven, where reliability, security, and scalability are essential. You will design and maintain APIs used by both internal systems and AI-driven services, ensuring seamless integration across complex healthcare workflows. This is a backend-focused engineering role with strong ownership across architecture, infrastructure, and product delivery in a regulated domain.
Accountabilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable FastAPI-based backend services and RESTful APIs for core product domains.
- Develop secure and well-documented APIs for web, mobile, and AI system consumption.
- Contribute to frontend applications using TypeScript, React, and Next.js when needed, ensuring smooth API integration.
- Architect and optimize PostgreSQL databases (RDS/Aurora), including schema design and migration management using Alembic.
- Implement asynchronous workflows using tools such as Celery, RabbitMQ, and Redis for background processing and event handling.
- Monitor, debug, and improve production systems using observability tools such as Datadog and Sentry.
- Write and maintain automated tests (pytest, Playwright) to ensure system reliability and product quality.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to support safe and efficient deployments.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years in production Python backend development (FastAPI, Django, or Flask).
- Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications.
- Solid expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, SQL optimization, and ORM usage (SQLAlchemy/Alembic).
- Experience with message brokers and async processing tools such as Redis, RabbitMQ, and Celery.
- Familiarity with observability and production monitoring tools such as Datadog and Sentry.
- Working knowledge of frontend technologies such as TypeScript, React, and Next.js.
- Strong understanding of secure coding practices, authentication, and API security fundamentals.
- Experience in at least one of the following domains: payments systems, authentication/identity (OAuth/JWT), or healthcare integrations (FHIR/EMR/EHR).
- Ability to work in a regulated environment where security, correctness, and reliability are critical.
- Competitive monthly salary of approximately $6,500 USD (contractor role).
- Fully remote position within LATAM regions.
