Senior Golang Developer
Join us and build a streaming platform used by millions.
At Sky Czech Republic, we’re building the tech backbone behind some of the world’s biggest streaming services. Ever heard of Peacock in the US or Sky Showtime across Europe, including the Czech Republic? They all run on our global streaming platform — a shared technological core where each service plugs in its own content and brand.
Our platform serves millions of users worldwide — Peacock alone reaches over 40 million viewers in the US. Thousands of engineers across the globe help shape it, and our Prague tech hub plays a key role. We don’t just keep things running; we actively push the boundaries of streaming technology together with teams in Lisbon, London, and New York.
In Prague, we work across a wide range of engineering domains: frontend development (mobile, TV, and web), backend (Java), platform engineering, content delivery networks, video playback (Golang), and data engineering (Python). Whatever your focus, you’ll work on technology used at truly global scale.
What is the plot?
Our streaming platform is at the forefront of technology, leveraging modern video codecs, adaptive bitrate streaming, low-latency streaming, and support for live streaming. We deliver innovative features to users while ensuring we maintain world-class playback KPIs and streaming standards, regardless of the device or operating system.
The Playback Experience team is building the next generation of observability and KPI automation for our global streaming platform. We want to give teams fast, trustworthy insight into playback quality, release impact and performance regressions at peak event traffic scale.
This is a senior role for someone who wants to be more than an implementer. You will act as a technical counterpart to the Engineering Manager, challenge and improve architectural direction.
What role will you play?
As a Senior Golang Developer, you will provide technical leadership for new telemetry platform
Partner closely with the Engineering Manager as a senior technical counterpart, providing architectural feedback, technical challenges and practical direction.
Shape the architecture of a production-grade internal telemetry platform built around Golang services, analytical storage, resilient messaging and cloud services.
Lead backend design for telemetry ingestion, validation, aggregation, APIs, alerting and dashboard-enabling services.
Build state of the art observability solution for global streaming platform that serves millions
What skills do you need to play your role well?
Senior-level backend engineering experience, including strong production Golang expertise 4+ years
Proven experience designing, building and operating backend or data-processing systems in production.
Strong experience with databases at scale; ClickHouse or another analytical database is a strong plus.
Experience making architectural trade-offs and communicating them clearly to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
Experience with cloud services and modern production environments; AWS, Kubernetes, Docker or similar technologies are valuable.
Strong understanding of reliability, observability, testing, performance and operational concerns in distributed systems.
Ability to mentor engineers, review designs and raise the technical quality of a team.
Comfort working in a domain where requirements evolve and architecture must be shaped through discovery, iteration and stakeholder alignment.
Nice to have
Experience with OpenTelemetry or broader telemetry and observability ecosystems.
Experience with high-volume event ingestion, logs, metrics, traces, analytical pipelines or real-time monitoring systems.
Experience with video streaming, playback quality, QoE/QoS metrics, HLS, DASH or similar media technologies.
Experience with A/B testing platforms, feature flags, statistical comparison, anomaly detection or release-safety automation.
Experience designing alerting strategies and operational guardrails for automated or semi-automated rollback decisions.
Frontend or dashboarding experience is a plus; the core role is backend and platform-focused.
Interest in AI-assisted analytics or agentic data workflows over telemetry data.
