Job Description Summary

We’re looking for a Senior Infrastructure Specialist to join our Private Cloud Platform – Backup & Recovery (BUR) Team. This role plays a key part in designing, engineering, and operating enterprise backup and data protection services, supporting the Group’s resilience, recoverability, and regulatory obligations.
You’ll be an experienced, hands on engineer with strong technical depth in enterprise backup and recovery platforms, capable of leading complex engineering outcomes, owning technical domains, and supporting junior colleagues’ development, while working under the strategic direction of senior technical leaders.

• Day to Day, You’ll:

• Act as a senior technical contributor within the BUR platform, designing, building and operating enterprise backup and recovery capabilities.
• Serve as an SME for Backup & Recovery technologies, supporting solution design across Private Cloud and adjacent platform teams.
• Lead technical design and implementation activities for backup, restore, and recovery services across VMware, physical and enterprise workloads.
• Engineer and maintain resilient protection policies, including application‑consistent backups, snapshots, restore workflows and recovery runbooks.
• Provide Level 3 engineering support, including incident triage, complex fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis.
• Support the definition and delivery of RPO / RTO requirements for critical services, ensuring alignment with security, risk and regulatory needs.
• Design and operate scalable backup platforms, supporting large VM estates and multi‑petabyte data volumes.
• Contribute to immutable backup and cyber‑resilience designs, supporting ransomware protection and recovery strategies.
• Integrate backup platforms with virtualisation, storage, databases, file systems and enterprise applications.
• Drive automation‑first engineering, including provisioning, policy management, restore workflows and platform upgrades.
• Coach and mentor Band D engineers, sharing knowledge and improving team capability.
• Collaborate effectively with Security, Risk, Application and Infrastructure teams, translating requirements into robust technical solutions.

  What You’ll Need

  Backup, Storage & Data Protection

• Strong hands‑on experience with enterprise backup and recovery platforms, including:
  • Dell Data Protection Suite (PPDM, NetWorker, Data Domain)
• Backup architecture and operations for:
  • VMware virtual infrastructure
  • Physical x86 servers
  • IBM Power / AIX / PowerVM workloads
  • Enterprise databases and applications
• Understanding of immutable backup, cyber recovery, and long‑term retention concepts
• Experience with backup performance, monitoring, capacity planning and compliance

• Core Platform Skills

• VMware vSphere (with working knowledge of NSX / Aria desirable)
• Enterprise Windows and Linux environments

• Automation & Engineering Practices

• Experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, Chef)
• Strong scripting and automation mindset
• Familiarity with Agile delivery and modern service design practices
