Senior Linux Engineer (12-month Contract)
Role Summary
The Linux Engineer EOS is responsible for assessing, planning, and executing upgrades or migrations of Linux systems reaching End of Support. The role ensures minimal downtime, security compliance, and alignment with organizational infrastructure standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess Linux servers (RHEL, Oracle Linux, etc.) reaching EOS and prepare change request.
- Plans and Perform OS upgrades, to supported versions or alternative platforms (e.g., RHEL 8/9, OL 8/9).
- Coordinate with application, database, and middleware teams to validate compatibility before and after migration.
- Implement automation using Shell scripting for bulk upgrade.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all EOS activities and change requests.
- Conduct post-upgrade validation, performance checks, and rollback planning.
- Work with vendors in case any issue during the upgrade for the fix.
- Support a 24*7 work environment under a flexible work arrangement for the EOS migration
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Linux system administration (RHEL / Oracle Linux).
- Experience in in-place upgrades and server rebuilds.
- Scripting skills (Shell, Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with infrastructure tools such as Satellite, Spacewalk, Puppet.
- Good understanding of networking, storage, and virtualization concepts (VMware).
- Experience with ITSM processes (Change, Incident, Problem Management).
- Certification: Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent will be an advantage.
