Senior Manager, Accounting

The Senior Manager, Accounting provides strategic leadership and oversight for key accounting operations, including payroll, customer billing, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory accounting, intercompany transactions, and government contract compliance. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory requirements, strengthening internal controls, and driving continuous process improvement across assigned accounting functions.

This position will lead a talented team of accounting professionals to ensure established accounting policies and procedures are followed. This person will review the work of department staff and provide feedback.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations & Financial Stewardship

  • Provide leadership and oversight for payroll, customer billing, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory accounting, other non-cash assets, and intercompany accounting activities.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial transactions, reconciliations, reporting, and month-end close activities.
  • Monitor financial risks, identify potential exposures, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Oversee complex accounting transactions and technical accounting matters, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
  • Support the preparation of financial analyses, schedules, compliance reporting, and audit activities.

Government Contracting & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), IRS requirements, and other applicable regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate accounting and government contracting compliance risks.
  • Partner with leadership to evaluate regulatory changes and implement appropriate accounting and process modifications.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and compliance assessments.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Maintain and strengthen accounting controls, procedures, and governance practices to ensure financial integrity and operational efficiency.
  • Lead initiatives to improve accounting processes, reporting capabilities, system functionality, and departmental effectiveness.
  • Evaluate existing workflows and technologies, recommending enhancements that improve scalability, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Oversee ERP-related accounting process improvements and support system optimization initiatives.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff, fostering accountability, professional growth, and high performance.
  • Establish clear expectations, priorities, and development plans for team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and support succession planning efforts.
  • Ensure appropriate cross-training and business continuity plans are in place for critical accounting functions.

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with executives, department leaders, and cross-functional teams to support business objectives and informed decision-making.
  • Provide financial expertise and recommendations related to operational, compliance, and strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to organizational planning efforts through analysis, risk assessment, and process recommendations.
  • Serve as a backup to the Accounting Manager and support key Controller responsibilities as required.

Leadership Scope

  • Directly supervises accounting personnel supporting payroll, billing, property accounting, and related financial operations.
  • Provides leadership, prioritization, and oversight across multiple accounting disciplines.
  • Responsible for workforce planning, employee development, performance management, and operational effectiveness within assigned functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • CPA designation preferred.

Experience

  • 7 years of experience in a related field is required.
  • 3 years of experience directly supervising others is required.
  • Progressive accounting leadership experience, preferably within a government contracting, aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounting operations, compliance activities, financial controls, and staff development.
  • Prior management experience with responsibility for team leadership and performance management.

Knowledge and Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR Part 31, CAS, and government contracting accounting practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Expertise in financial reporting, payroll administration, billing, internal controls, and accounting operations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, identify and protect sensitive information
  • Demonstrated ability to lead process improvement, system implementations, and organizational change initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and effectively partner across all levels of the organization.

Compensation: Base salary range is $115,000-155,000, depending on qualifications. SEAKR has very rich medical, dental and vision insurance plans, along with a generous 401(k) retirement plan. In addition to base salary, employees are eligible for a year-end bonus. SEAKR offers a variety of paid leave, such as vacation, sick, bereavement, and FMLA.
