Senior Manager, Commercial Strategy
OVERVIEW
At Kingdom, we’ve pioneered Superculture® ingredients: an entirely new class of clinically-validated postbiotics that target the root causes of unmet pet health needs. We’re actively selling Superculture® Pet Oral and Superculture® Pet Immune to pet food and supplement brands, and will be launching our first Superculture® ingredient for humans later this year.
We're looking for a Sr Manager, Commercial Strategy to join our small but mighty team, and own scoping the pipeline that determines which markets and which ingredients Kingdom should pursue next. In this role, you'll translate commercial and technical opportunities into validated, customer-tested ingredient concepts ready for development, clinical validation, and go-to-market. The work spans three things: defining the path for our existing ingredients into human markets, scoping and prioritizing our future ingredient development roadmap across pet and human, and setting clinical study targets that align our trial pipeline with the biggest commercial opportunities. This is a commercial role, with success measured by the speed and quality of the ingredient bets we make — and the revenue they unlock.
This is a full-time, in-person role at our headquarters in Brooklyn, NY, with occasional travel to customers and industry conferences.
We founded Kingdom in 2019 to cultivate healthier living with natural microbes, and have raised $40M in venture funding from top investors. Less than a year in market, our ingredients are already powering dozens of products from leading pet brands, with overwhelmingly positive customer reception. 1 out of 3 product launches using our ingredients have earned a #1 New Release on Amazon, and 90% of our customers from last year are launching additional products with us this year. Our core technical edge is our scientific platform, which spans ingredient discovery, clinical trials, and manufacturing scale-up.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you’ll report to the VP of Commercialization, and will work closely with the co-founders, commercial team, key scientists, customers, and industry advisors/experts to:
Define the path for existing ingredient technologies in human markets (short to medium term focus):
Scope and prioritize human market opportunities for our existing ingredient technologies (based on end-product and claims landscape, unmet consumer needs, competitive ingredient set, and more)
Define market structure, pricing segments, key players, and end-consumer willingness-to-pay
Own customer discovery for prospective opportunities: build foundational relationships, gather commercialization and claims-relevant insight, attend conferences, and grow Kingdom's presence in target markets
Define the final ingredient concept, moment of truth, end-product applications, and commercialization path (positioning, claims, unit economics, regulatory implications) for us to bring the ingredient to market
Identify and prioritize new ingredient development opportunities (medium to longer term focus):
Review and refine the commercial criteria and evaluation process for assessing future ingredient opportunities
Scope future ingredient opportunities across pet and human markets (food, supplement, cosmetics, and more)
Own customer discovery across prospective opportunities - introducing Kingdom as a potential partner, building relationships, and surfacing commercialization insights
Develop opportunities from concept to clear ingredient commercial specifications, including moment of truth, customer/expert validation, end-product prioritization, unit economics, and key ingredient requirements/specifications for technical handoff
Iterate with technical team and external experts to refine and finalize ingredient concepts
Collaborate with technical team to set clinical study targets for new markets and new ingredients (ongoing):
Test, refine, and maintain target claims for ingredient pipeline
Provide the clinical team with prioritized claims, relative importance, and the commercial business case to inform clinical strategy
Collaborate with clinical team on clinical trial prioritization based on commercial considerations, trial complexity, and likelihood of success
