Senior Manager, Transportation

About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Senior Manager, Transportation to join our Supply Chain team in our Bethesda, MD office. This role leads outbound transportation and logistics operations across the network, performance governance, ensuring exceptional service, cost efficiency, operational reliability, and scalability in support of company growth. This role serves as a key liaison between Transportation, Store Operations, field leadership, Distribution Centers, Finance, and third-party logistics providers, ensuring transportation solutions effectively support store execution, service expectations, and customer experience. This position leverages transportation systems, operational data, and analytics to establish performance expectations, define key metrics, drive accountability, identify improvement opportunities, and enhance visibility across the transportation network. This role also helps evaluate and optimize transportation sourcing strategies and capacity solutions across asset-based carriers, brokered transportation providers, dedicated fleet solutions, and other transportation models to support service, cost, and growth objectives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and results-driven leader who can influence cross-functional partners, develop high-performing teams, drive continuous improvement, and execute initiatives that strengthen

transportation performance and support enterprise objectives. This position reports to the Director, Supply Chain Domestic Logistics.

You will

  • Strategize and lead outbound transportation operations, ensuring alignment with service goals, cost targets, operational priorities, and business growth.
  • Drive transportation financial performance through budget management, forecasting, variance analysis, productivity initiatives, and implementation of cost-saving opportunities.
  • Optimize transportation performance by managing carrier and transportation provider
  • relationships, supporting sourcing initiatives and negotiations, and ensuring reliable, cost-effective capacity across asset-based, brokered, dedicated, and other transportation models.
  • Define and govern transportation KPIs, scorecards, and business review processes, leveraging
  • transportation systems, operational data, and analytics to drive accountability, identify trends, and support operational decision-making.
  • Lead a team of logistics professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous
  • improvement, talent development, succession planning, and customer service excellence.
  • Lead the effective utilization and continuous improvement of transportation systems, reporting tools, and operational technologies to improve visibility, decision-making, efficiency, and transportation performance.
  • Shape transportation execution strategies and support transportation network, sourcing, and service model initiatives that enhance scalability, reliability, cost efficiency, and support the needs of stores and the broader supply chain network.
  • Influence and align cross-functional partners across Store Operations, field leadership, Distribution, Finance, and transportation providers to improve service, resolve systemic challenges, support store execution, and enhance the delivery experience.

You will come with

  • Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 7 – 10 years of experience in logistics operations across multiple transportation modes.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing domestic freight and leading logistics teams.
  • Prove success in driving cost reduction and service improvement initiatives.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed.
