Senior Materials Supervisor

We are looking for a talented Senior Materials Supervisor to join our team specializing in Warehouse Management and Inventory Control with an understanding of MRP/ERP for our Cummins location in Maxton, NC.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

Ensure uninterrupted material flow to production while maintaining inventory accuracy, safety, and cost discipline, enabling the plant to meet schedule, quality, and labor targets.

Production Material Availability

  • Right material, right quantity, right time to production
  • Lineside replenishment, kitting, staging, and internal logistics
  • Proactive identification and escalation of material risks
  • Preventing material related line stoppages

Plant Impact: Schedule attainment, downtime prevention, labor efficiency

Inventory Accuracy & Control

  • Accuracy of warehouse, WIP, and lineside inventory
  • Cycle count execution, reconciliation, and root cause closure
  • ERP/WMS transaction discipline
  • Physical inventory readiness and execution

Plant Impact: Reduced shortages, write-offs, audit findings, and obsolescence

Receiving & Internal Logistics

  • Inbound material receipt, verification, labeling, put away
  • Lockstock discipline to support production readiness
  • Coordination with Quality on holds, MRB, and deviations
  • Internal transfers and material movements

Safety, 5S & Compliance

  • Warehouse and material handling safety ownership
  • PIV/forklift certification and compliance
  • Storage, racking, pedestrian safety, and housekeeping standards
  • Incident investigation and corrective action

Plant Impact: Injury prevention, audit readiness, clean and controlled work areas

People & Labor Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop warehouse employees and leads
  • Daily staffing aligned to production demand
  • Overtime control and labor productivity
  • Training, cross training, and accountability

Plant Impact: Controlled labor cost, reliable execution, engaged workforce

Continuous Improvement

  • Eliminate waste in motion, handling, space, and storage
  • Implement Lean practices (5S, Kanban, supermarkets, standard work)
  • Improve flow paths, replenishment methods, and space utilization

Inventory Control Supervisory Roles & Responsibilities:

Inventory Accuracy & Integrity

  • Own overall inventory accuracy across warehouse, production, WIP, and lineside locations
  • Establish and maintain robust inventory control processes and standards
  • Ensure timely and accurate inventory transactions in ERP/WMS systems
  • Prevent and reduce discrepancies, shortages, excess, and obsolete inventory

Cycle Counting & Physical Inventory

  • Design, lead, and continuously improve the cycle count program
  • Analyze variances, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Lead physical inventory planning, execution, and reconciliation
  • Ensure audit readiness and compliance with internal controls and SOX requirements

Manufacturing Material Control

  • Support uninterrupted material flow to production through accurate inventory visibility
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Scheduling, and Operations to prevent line stoppages
  • Support engineering changes, material transitions, and end of life actions
  • Monitor aging, slow-moving, and obsolete inventory and drive reduction plans

Systems, Data & Reporting

  • Maintain inventory master data, location accuracy, and transaction discipline
  • Develop and monitor inventory KPIs, including accuracy, adjustments, and variance trends
  • Use data to identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities
  • Prepare inventory reports for plant and leadership reviews

Process Improvement & Standardization

  • Define, document, and enforce standard work for inventory processes
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and variability
  • Improve inventory controls related to receiving, storage, movement, and consumption
  • Support Lean initiatives (5S, Kanban, supermarkets, point fuse inventory)

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Warehouse, Supply Chain, Production, Quality, and Engineering
  • Support root cause investigations related to shortages, mis builds, and variances
  • Communicate risks early and clearly to drive proactive resolution

Compliance, Safety & Controls

  • Ensure inventory practices comply with company policies and audit requirements
  • Support segregation of duties and internal control expectations
  • Promote safe material handling and proper storage practices

Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and develop inventory control staff
  • Set clear expectations and hold team members accountable for accuracy and discipline
  • Support training and best practices across inventory-related roles

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent degree required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:
Intermediate level of experience required. 3-5 years of relevant work experience preferred.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Oracle experience preferred
  • proficient in excel
  • proficient in access database creations and management
  • SQL experience preferred
