Senior Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing and managing employee payroll accurately and on time. This role ensures compliance with company policies and applicable laws while maintaining confidentiality and delivering a high level of service to employees.

Day in the Life of the Senior Payroll Specialist:

  • Process bi-weekly/monthly payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain payroll records, including wages, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
  • Review and validate timekeeping data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Manage payroll-related taxes, filings, and reporting.
  • Coordinate with HR and Accounting on employee changes (new hires, terminations, compensation updates).
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and support month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Handle employee inquiries related to payroll, taxes, and deductions.
  • Support audits by providing payroll documentation and reports.
  • Continuously improve payroll processes and controls.

Required Qualifications - About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of payroll processing experience.
  • Knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, Cloudpay, Baker Tilly, Greenfields etc.).
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws and tax regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Payroll Reporting Tools.
  • Fluency in English.

Highly Preferred:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
  • Experience in multi-state or international payroll.
  • Familiarity with SOX controls and compliance (especially relevant in larger organizations).
