Senior Planner
The Town of Snowmass Village is looking to hire a Senior Planner to join our Community Development Department!
$1,000 sign-on bonus available!
We are looking for a Senior Planner that will manage high-priority, complex land use applications and building permits while supporting both daily operations and strategic long-range planning initiatives. They are expected to operate with a high degree of independence and professional judgment, the ideal candidate brings an open, collaborative communication style and lends a focus to exemplary public service.
Some of the day-to-day duties are listed below:
- Provide customer service by providing information and assistance to Town staff, the general public, and consultants/developers regarding Town plans, zoning matters and development requirements; conduct meetings with engineers, developers, architects, general public and Town staff regarding the development process and requirements, conducted in person, via telephone or internet.
- Supports Planner of the Day (POD) functions. This may include answering questions from internal partners, assisting customers to answer questions and provide solution-oriented advice.
- Attends pre-application meetings with property owners, prospective developers, and representatives from all applicable Town departments.
- Review, interpret and analyze applications with respect to the Town’s regulations, compliance with zoning requirements, requirements of service providers, and good planning practices.
- Write staff reports, resolutions and ordinances for land use cases which typically include: background research, a thorough analysis and staff recommendations.
- Attend meetings and make presentations to appropriate boards or commissions including the Planning Commission and Town Council. May lead weekly Development Review Team meetings.
- Draft and process amendments to the Town's Land Use Code, Zoning Map, and Comprehensive Plan.

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications/skills:
- General understanding of Historic preservation laws, regulations, and programs; transportation planning principles and practices; and sustainability techniques, principles and practices.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban/Regional Planning or a related field from an accredited college or university AND at least 3 years of related work experience. A master’s degree in urban/regional planning or a related area of study (political science, public policy, public administration, etc.) is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education.
- Experience planning in local government preferred.
- AICP certification desired.

- Present technical data, in verbal, written, graphic and map form, to a variety of boards and commissions.

- Utilize specialized computer applications applicable to planning design and review.
