Job Description:
Essential Duties:
- Interpret drill hole geophysical logs, lithological logs and assays to determine the thickness, depth and/or volume of various geologic units
- Organize and QA/QC large quantities of geologic data to prepare input files for geologic computer models
- Construct and validate geologic computer models using Vulcan, Origin or similar software
- Plan, organize and conduct drilling programs to support marketing activities and mining operations as needed, including:
- Determining the number, type and location of drill holes and core holes needed to meet an objective
- Planning and estimating cost
- Preparing requests for proposal for various drilling program contractors, evaluating contractor bids, making selection recommendations, and preparing contractor contracts
- Leading the drilling program, including:
- Supervising drilling crews and geophysical logging crews
- Preparing drill hole cuttings and core lithological descriptions
- Packaging and arranging core sample shipments to the laboratory for analysis
- Preparing maps, cross-sections, resource and reserve estimates and text for various technical reports and mine permit applications
Other duties:
- Presenting geologic information to company management and outside parties
- Investigating geologic problems and requests for information as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of geostatistical principals and geostatistical modeling is required
- Competent in basic aspects of Excel spreadsheet software is required
- Knowledge of Word, AutoCAD, ArcGIS and SQL database management is desired
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to work with other geologists, mining engineers, marketing personnel, company management, contractors and other personnel from outside the company
- Previous experience modeling in varied commodities and geological settings is preferred
- Ability to serve as a Qualified Person as defined by SK-1300 and NI 43-101 regulations
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Minimum four-year degree in Geology or related discipline or equivalent experience
- Professional Registration through ASBOG examination or similar industry recognized accreditation organization
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required
Relocation or Remote Work:
- Assistance with relocation or remote work is available.
ANALYSIS OF PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
- Intermittent: lifting and carrying up to 70 lbs. (moving boxes, books and luggage); climbing and balancing (retrieving/placing objects from/to top shelves, etc.); kneeling (filing, packing boxes, field work); stooping and crouching (filing, packing/moving boxes); depth perception (driving); color vision (graphics work).
- Occasionally: standing and walking (copying, meeting, filing, presenting, drafting, digitizing); pushing and pulling up to 30 lbs. (closing/opening desk/file cabinet drawers, moving boxes with dolly/mail cart, etc.); reaching (retrieving /placing objects from/to top shelves, etc.).
- Frequently: grasping (phone, documents; digitizing, holding luggage), speaking and hearing (delegating, presenting, meeting, etc.), repetitive motion (data entry, calculating, binding reports, writing).
- Continually: sitting (workstation, meetings, travel), tabulating (data entry, calculating, drafting, digitizing, writing), seeing (reading, writing, computer/desk work, presenting).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires some travel by automobile and/or commercial airlines within the U.S. and internationally. Field work activities are sometimes conducted in extreme weather. Assistance with relocation or remote work is available.
