Senior Principal Scientist - Process Development
Lonza is hiring a Senior Principal Scientist to join our Process Development Sciences team in Singapore.
The Process Development Sciences team is a focused group of senior subject matter experts (SMEs) with deep expertise across upstream (USP), downstream (DSP), process characterization (PC), and process validation (PV). The team provides scientific and technical leadership to address both routine and complex challenges impacting process development and manufacturing.
In this role, you will collaborate across Lonza’s global mammalian network and engage directly with customers to deliver innovative, science-driven solutions. This is an office-first role, enabling real-time collaboration and alignment. You will primarily work onsite, with flexibility to work remotely up to 20% of the time (1 day per week).

What you will do
Provide deep scientific expertise to support development and manufacture of therapeutic proteins using mammalian cell culture across USP, DSP, PC, and PV
Apply structured, data-driven approaches (e.g., RCA, DoE, multivariate analysis, risk assessments, FMEA) to resolve complex technical challenges and support process robustness
Contribute to process development activities including clinical development, process transfer to cGMP, and manufacturing support
Serve as a subject matter expert, ensuring high-quality, well-documented investigations and compliance with regulatory expectations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Operations) to implement process improvements and emerging technologies
Maintain strong scientific rigor and quality standards across customer and internal projects
Identify and share emerging scientific, technical, and industry trends relevant to Lonza’s capabilities
Support effective communication with customers and internal stakeholders, including presentations and technical discussions
What we are looking for
PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific discipline
10+ years of experience in biologics development
Strong experience supporting late-stage clinical development, including process characterization, validation, or BLA-enabling activities
Deep technical expertise in USP, DSP, PC, or PV
Proven experience in data-driven problem solving, including DoE and risk-based approaches
Demonstrated ability to lead technically across functions and global teams
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
