Senior Product Manager, Commercial (Optimiser & Decision Intelligence)

Company Description
Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company. Working at Nine, you’ll have access to a unique range of experiences and opportunities, helping drive the success of the country’s most trusted television, radio, digital and publishing brands.

Our content reaches almost every Australian - meaning what we do has real impact. We bring people together, celebrate the big moments, and capture the everyday ones.

Some of our most beloved brands have been part of Australian life for generations, and others - new on the scene - have already found their place firmly in our lives. We’re evolving and we need people like you to bring new ideas, innovate and make your mark.

Job Description

As Senior Product Manager, you’ll own the end-to-end development and continuous improvement of Nine's optimiser platform — a proprietary mathematical solver and rule engine that optimises commercial inventory allocation, campaign planning, and media buying decisions in near real-time. You translate business requirements into product specifications for sophisticated optimisation algorithms. You work across sales/operations (understanding the problems to solve), data science (building the models), and engineering (shipping the systems) to define and deliver optimiser capabilities that empower commercial teams to plan faster, optimise better, and execute at scale.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Drive agile development with Data Science, Engineering, and QA to ensure the solver and rule engine are reliable, high-performing, and commercially valuable.
  • Translate complex commercial needs into precise optimization objectives, product scope, and clear acceptance criteria for data science and platform teams.
  • Conduct structured discovery with finance, ops, and programming stakeholders to validate optimization problems before algorithm design begins.
  • Own delivery predictability and quality metrics, proactively managing risks, blockers, and production optimizer performance.
  • Act as the central pivot point to align cross-functional teams, communicate trade-offs transparently, and present confidently to senior leadership.
  • Thrive in ambiguity using a strong data-driven mindset to decompose complex problems and make confident decisions with incomplete data.
  • Agile expertise required, including hands-on experience running Scrum/Kanban ceremonies and managing workflows in Jira.
  • Preferred experience: Familiarity with inventory lifecycles, yield management, media buying workflows, or exposure to Agentic AI/ML concepts.

What You Will Bring:

  • 6+ years as a Product Manager with a proven track record of shipping complex software products, managing backlogs, and driving Agile execution.
  • Solid understanding of software development processes, APIs, data models, and system architecture; comfort discussing technical trade-offs with engineers.
  • Familiarity with data pipelines, BigQuery, and analytics platforms (or a strong willingness to learn quickly).
  • Proven ability to turn ambiguous briefs into clear scope, write detailed user stories with measurable acceptance criteria, and ship features on time.
  • Ability to translate business strategy into prioritized roadmaps and contribute to the product vision using delivery insights and stakeholder feedback.

Desirable:

  • Academic or professional foundation in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, or a related field.
