Senior Product Owner

Our client is a US-based provider of enterprise software for public safety agencies (law enforcement, fire, EMS). The project focuses on workflow-heavy, highly regulated processes like policy management, compliance tracking, and complex approvals. You will join a European-based team and act as a key bridge between them and US-based product leadership to ensure smooth delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a bridge between the Croatia-based development team (10–11 developers, 3 QA) and US-based product leadership (Senior Product Manager, Product Designer), ensuring smooth communications and avoiding bottlenecks.
- Hands-on in Jira: create, clarify, and manage epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria; identify edge cases and ensure requirements are unambiguous and complete.
- Transform high-level requirements (prepared by Senior Product Manager) into actionable tasks for the development team, ensuring all details are captured, particularly for workflow-heavy and highly regulated domains.
- Support product planning and ensure that sprints are well-prepared and all work is ready for execution, including feature status reporting and roadmap tracking.
- Research open questions or requirements gaps independently before escalating to US-based leads, keeping in mind time zone differences.
- Regularly report on progress, raise blockers, and coordinate between development and product teams.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst.
- Prior experience as Product Owner or Business Analyst in finance, insurance claims, public safety, healthcare, or similar high-regulation and process-rich environments.
- Reside in, or be able to work within, the Croatian (or nearby) time zone for maximum team overlap.
- Solid track record managing product requirements, forming user stories with explicit acceptance criteria, and covering sophisticated approval and workflow rules.
- Excellent spoken and written English; experience working across distributed teams (Europe–US).
- Comfortable clarifying requirements and making independent decisions, escalating strategically only for more complex questions due to time zone gaps.
Nice to Have:
- Experience working with US public safety agencies or analogous enterprise domains.
- Understanding product areas focused on reporting and analytics with extensive data capture and process tracking.
- Coordinated multiple development teams (10+ engineers and QA).
