About the role
Job SummaryThe Senior Pump Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, disassembly, repair, reassembly, balancing, and testing of industrial pumps and rotating equipment in a high-quality service center environment. This role serves as a technical expert for complex repairs, including precision balancing of impellers and assembled rotors, ensuring all work meets OEM specifications, safety standards, and customer requirements. The Senior Pump Mechanic also supports mentoring junior mechanics and contributes to continuous improvement within the repair process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complete teardown, inspection, and rebuild of centrifugal pumps, multistage pumps, vertical pumps, and other rotating equipment
- Diagnose mechanical issues including wear, imbalance, misalignment, and hydraulic performance problems
- Balance individual components such as impellers as well as fully assembled rotors to meet OEM and industry standards
- Assemble rotating elements including shafts, sleeves, bearings, and impellers with proper fits and tolerances
- Conduct hydrostatic testing on pump cases
- Measure and record tolerances using precision tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc.)
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and OEM specifications
- Restore pumps to OEM or engineered specifications
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure all repairs, assemblies, and balancing activities meet quality standards and customer expectations
- Participate in quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- 5–10+ years of experience in pump repair or rotating equipment maintenance
- Strong knowledge of centrifugal pumps and rotating assemblies
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
- Solid mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to cross-train in multiple work centers
