Senior Quality Technician
Summary
An FAA-certified Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic in a Quality role is responsible for ensuring all maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities comply with FAA regulations, approved technical data, and the organization’s Quality Management System (QMS). This role focuses on inspection, compliance verification, documentation, and airworthiness release rather than primary wrench-turning.
Responsibilities
Inspection & Airworthiness

Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on aircraft, components, and assemblies

Verify all work complies with:

FAA regulations (Part 43 / Part 145)
-
Approved technical data (OEM manuals, SRMs, ADs, SBs)
-
Determine airworthiness and approve items for return to service (e.g., FAA 8130-3)
Quality Compliance (QMS / AS9100 / Part 145)
-
Ensure adherence to Pivotal quality management system, which must ensure airworthiness and regulatory compliance

Audit maintenance activities against:

Company procedures
-
Customer requirements
-
Regulatory standards
-
Identify and document non-conformances and support corrective actions
Documentation & Records
-
Review and validate:
-
Work orders, travelers, and maintenance records
-
Airworthiness documentation and traceability
-
Customer and vendor paperwork
-
Maintain accurate and complete maintenance records in compliance with FAA requirements
-
Ensure documentation supports full configuration and compliance verification
Technical Evaluation & Inspection Methods
-
Interpret:
-
Engineering drawings, schematics, and technical publications
-
Inspection criteria and tolerances
-
Select appropriate inspection methods and tools (e.g., gauges, micrometers, NDT methods)
-
Verify calibration status of inspection equipment per quality system requirements
In-Process & Final Verification
-
Conduct in-process inspections to catch defects early
-
Perform final inspection prior to return-to-service
-
Verify all required maintenance steps, inspections, and signoffs are complete
Root Cause & Continuous Improvement
-
Support root cause analysis (RCA) for defects and discrepancies
-
Participate in:
-
Corrective Action / Preventive Action (CAPA)
-
Continuous improvement initiatives
-
Provide feedback to maintenance, engineering, and quality leadership
Training & Oversight

Mentor and guide mechanics on:
-
Proper inspection methods
-
Documentation requirements
-
Regulatory compliance
-
Support qualification of personnel performing maintenance activities
Qualifications
-
Experience in:
-
Aircraft maintenance and inspection
-
Part 145 repair station operations (preferred)
-
Strong knowledge of FAA regulations and airworthiness standards
-
Ability to interpret technical data and engineering drawings
