About the role

We are looking for a Senior Risk & Compliance Manager to join our Legal, Risk & Compliance team in Sydney.

At Stake, risk isn't a gatekeeper. It's a critical part of how we build, innovate and scale. As a product and engineering-led business operating in a highly regulated environment, we believe strong risk management creates better customer experiences, enables faster decision-making and supports sustainable growth.

This role sits at the centre of that philosophy. You'll work closely with leaders across Product, Engineering, Operations and Customer teams to ensure risk and compliance frameworks are embedded into how the business operates every day. From launching new products and strengthening operational resilience to managing incidents and improving governance, you'll help shape how Stake balances innovation with customer protection.

As a senior member of the Legal, Risk & Compliance team, you'll play a key role in evolving Stake's risk operating model as we continue to scale across products, markets and regulatory environments. This is a highly visible role with significant influence across the organisation and the opportunity to build risk capabilities that support the next phase of Stake's growth. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.

What success looks like

Within your first two years, you'll have:

  • Strengthened Stake's risk and compliance operating model, ensuring frameworks translate into practical, effective and measurable business outcomes
  • Embedded robust risk management practices across Product, Engineering, Operations and Customer teams, helping risk become part of everyday decision-making
  • Established clear ownership, governance and accountability across key risk, compliance and control activities
  • Improved the quality and visibility of risk data through enhanced reporting, GRC tooling and stronger control governance
  • Built effective incident management and operational resilience capabilities that improve preparedness, response and organisational learning
  • Enhanced product, trading and operational risk governance, ensuring new initiatives are assessed, challenged and launched with confidence
  • Helped strengthen fraud, scam prevention and financial crime controls through proactive risk management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Built trusted partnerships across the business, becoming a valued adviser on risk, compliance and strategic decision-making

You'll thrive here if…

  • You have significant experience in risk and compliance roles within a trading broker, financial markets, fintech or similarly regulated environment
  • You combine strong technical expertise with commercial judgement and understand how to balance risk management with business growth
  • You have experience designing, implementing and scaling risk frameworks, governance processes and control environments
  • You enjoy solving complex problems and can move comfortably between strategic thinking and hands-on execution
  • You communicate clearly, influence effectively and build strong relationships across a broad range of stakeholders
  • You thrive in fast-moving environments where ambiguity exists and ownership is expected

Bonus if you've ever

  • Implemented or optimised GRC platforms and risk management tooling in a high-growth business
  • Built or managed assurance testing, control monitoring or RCSA programs
  • Led responses to significant incidents, outages, regulatory reviews or remediation programs
  • Worked closely with product and engineering teams to embed risk management into technology delivery processes
  • Managed complaints, AFCA matters or regulatory interactions within a financial services environment
