This role is fully remote. We are looking for candidates based in Europe.

Role overview

We're looking for a Senior Shopify Developer to lead one of the most important technical initiatives in Hilo's next growth phase. You'll take ownership of our Shopify storefront and play a key role in launching our ecommerce platform into the US market. This is an opportunity to build something with real business impact, shape the technical direction of our commerce platform, and become the go-to expert for our storefront as we continue to scale internationally.

Core responsibilities:

Storefront ownership

  • Own the Shopify storefront end to end, from build to launch, ensuring it is live and stable by our target US launch date.
  • Own the frontend and ongoing business as usual work for the storefront.
  • Understand Shopify architecture and best practices
  • Being able to work across frontend and backend when required.

Integrations

  • Handle Shopify integrations including Celigo, NetSuite, Amazon, and other ERP systems, together with the related data mapping.
  • Bring a strong understanding of backend integrations and APIs.
  • Undertake backend work on our existing Java stack as needed, in line with team standards.
  • Troubleshoot production issues independently.

Quality and delivery

  • Self-manage the quality assurance for your own work, with thorough testing, careful releases, and a strong QA mindset that favors prevention over firefighting.
  • Document technical decisions, architecture, and implementation notes, leaving systems understandable for future developers.
  • Work independently and proactively, communicating clearly and reliably with the team throughout, and escalating risks or blockers early.

Requirements

  • Extensive hands-on experience developing Shopify storefronts, including Liquid, Shopify APIs, Shopify Functions and custom app development.
  • Experience integrating Shopify with third-party platforms such as ERP, OMS or fulfilment systems. Experience with Celigo, NetSuite or Amazon is highly valued but not essential.
  • Solid understanding of APIs, system integrations and data flows, with the ability to troubleshoot production issues independently.
  • Comfortable working across the frontend while understanding the backend architecture that supports a modern Shopify ecosystem.
  • Comfortable occasionally contributing to the Java tech stack.
  • Experience delivering production-ready software with a strong focus on testing, code quality and maintainability.
  • Strong communication skills in English and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, marketing and commercial teams.
  • A proactive, ownership-driven mindset. You enjoy solving problems, identifying improvements and communicating risks early rather than waiting for direction.

Nice to Have

Experience in any of the following areas would be an advantage, but isn't required:

  • Headless commerce architectures
  • Sanity CMS
  • AWS or AWS Lambda
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Shopify performance optimisation and SEO
  • Exposure to Java-based backend services

What success looks like

  • The Shopify storefront is live and stable by the launch date.
  • The Celigo, NetSuite, and Amazon integration work is clean, accurate, and well documented.
  • You demonstrate strong independence and proactive communication throughout the engagement.
  • You build a solid foundation that could grow into a longer term or full-time role, for example as our dedicated frontend/storefront owner.
