A Brief Overview
The Senior Speech Pathologist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and counseling patients with speech, language, swallowing, or hearing disorders in accordance with professional and Methodist Healthcare standards of treatment. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Performs lead tasks.
- Performs initial patient assessment on assigned patients.
- Implements treatment activities.
- Provides ongoing patient assessment through observation of patient and records. Reports findings in a timely fashion.
- Identifies patient specific Speech Rehabilitation learning needs and provides appropriate education.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- Required - Master's Degree Speech Pathology
Work Experience Requirements
- Required - No prior work experience
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Required - Speech Pathologist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Communications Disorders and Sciences
- Preferred - Speech Pathologist Mississippi - Mississippi State Department of Health Professional Licensure Division
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of speech therapy methods.
- Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
- Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians and other outside professionals.
- Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others' work flow.
- Demonstrable leadership potential.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- Provides leadership and guidance, and acts as resource for Speech Pathologists.
Physical Demands
- Exposure to patient body fluids.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
- Ability to read and write to communicate both orally and in writing with other individuals.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand, reach, bend, walk, twist and sit in one place throughout shift.
- Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive, coordinated motions.
- Ability to use hands for gripping and squeezing as well as repetitive hand and wrist motion.
