This is an unpaid fellowship through the Department of War (DoW) SkillBridge Program. The fellow selected for this role will not receive compensation or benefits from GDIT and will not be an employee, agent or contractor of GDIT but rather will remain an employee of the DoW and will receive compensation and benefits through the DoW.

GDIT is seeking a Senior Systems Engineering Fellow to join our team. Responsibilities include designing, planning, and evaluating physical security systems in accordance with Department of State policies and procedures. Provides innovative methods and technical solutions using the engineering design process, including documentation.
HOW A SYSTEMS ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Develops advanced technical solutions for the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architectures
Troubleshoots highly complex system hardware and software issues
Develops training materials for end users on the proper use of hardware and software
Develops implementation plans for software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages
Monitors and tunes systems to achieve optimum performance levels
Ensures workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions
Leads efforts to ensure data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
Conducts advanced hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines
Develops performance and security plans for computers that meet the needs of network users
Evaluates existing systems and plans long-term strategies
May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals
May serve as a team or task lead
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

TCP/IP, IPV4 and IPV6
Windows Operating Systems
Linux Operating Systems
Network protocols and standards, HTTP/HTPPS, WINS, DNS, SNMP etc.
TLS standards
OSI Model
Active Directory to include Group Policy management
Security Content Automation Protocol
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering or similar discipline and
Required Experience: 10+ years of related technical security experience or the equivalent combination of education/training and/or experience.
Required Certifications: DoW 8570 IAT Level II certification - Security+ CE, ISC2 SSCP
Security Clearance Level: Top Secret
Required Technical Skills: User level proficiency of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD/Visio)
Required Abilities: Ability to lift 50 lbs. (Installing/reconfiguring data center racks and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds)
Preferred Certifications: DoW 8570 IAT Level II certification - Security+ CE, ISC2 SSCP desired

Has served at least 180 days on active duty
Can participate within the last 6 months of separation or retirement
Will receive an honorable discharge
Has taken any service TAP/TGPS
Has attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
Received Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) written authorization and approval to participate in DoW SkillBridge Program prior to start of the fellowship.
