Job Description\:

Your main responsibility will be for the Interrogation Friend or Foe (IFF) system which is a mixture of Government Funded equipment as well as directly procured capability. This system is crucial to the Royal Navy as without it the fleet cannot enter theatres of operation. The integration and commissioning of this system into the T26 platform is therefore essential and we are rapidly approaching this exciting milestone. Other equipment which we are fitting the ship for, but not at this point in time, are also shared out amongst the Above Water Sensors Team, and you will receive a share of these systems too.

Core Duties\:

  • Managing a mix of internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer and business needs are satisfied
  • Supporting design change activities from existing platform baselines to ensure design intent is realised
  • Innovating when defining solutions to minimise project risk and maximise likelihood of successful implementation
  • Working with Operations colleagues to ensure successful installation of equipment
  • Working with suppliers to ensure successful commissioning of equipment

Essential Skills\:

  • You will have knowledge of Combat Systems as well as the roles of other teams within the shipyard
  • You will have awareness of design considerations involved when fitting equipment to the ship
  • You will have the ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders to ensure successful installation activities
  • You will have an academic qualification in a STEM related subject, and ability/willingness to become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer through an appropriate recognised professional institution

The team\:

The T26 Above Water Sensors Team delivers a wide variety of equipment, much of it installed in or around the composite mast, but also widespread throughout the ship. You will be joining an engineering team that works closely together to ensure the smooth integration and installation of equipment, this is essential as new customer change requirements and emergent technical issues must be resolved to maintain current programme timelines. The team is unique as it delivers not only traditional combat system capability but also delivers the composite mast as a structure. There is much overlap with engineering colleagues within the team, and we work together for the collective good as required. The team is upbeat, sociable and supportive of each other.
