Senior Technical Analyst
Posting Description: What this job involves:
- Interacting with customers to solve a wide range of problems.
- Interacting with other Support members to get or give assistance.
- Interacting with other Oracle teams to help them or their customers when MySQL is involved.
- Interacting with other MySQL teams to discuss or report customer issues, feature planning, or documentation changes.
- Maintaining a high degree of professionalism when representing MySQL.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of our Knowledge Base.
Most of your interactions with customers will be in written form. Some direct calls or web conferences are unavoidable.
You will be the technical interface between MySQL and a wide variety of customers with a wide variety of skills. Flexibility is necessary for that communication to go well.
We are looking for a person that is both friendly and knowledgeable to assist our customers.
At least a solid background in some of our products and how to use them is required. A preferred candidate will demonstrate deep knowledge of several of the MySQL products and how they operate.
MySQL operates primarily in SQL. Proficiency in any dialect of SQL is a must. Experience with MySQL's SQL is preferred.
You must be highly functional, in a command-line environment, on either Windows or Linux. Expertise in both would be preferred.
English proficiency, both written and verbal, both conversational and technical, is also a requirement. This is the common language that our internal support system uses globally (this is a universal Oracle policy not limited to MySQL). There may be opportunities to interact in your native language, but the majority of your working day will be spent in English.
If you do not already have a MySQL Certification, you will be expected to earn one within the first couple of years in this position.
Additional Details: Preference will be given to the candidate who possesses these additional qualities or talents:
- Experience managing or supporting MySQL (or similar DB) in a production environment. Example: backups, performance tuning, replication.
- Experience on any Cloud infrastructure is a plus, with preference on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Experience with a Cluster environment is a plus, with preference on MySQL InnoDB Cluster or NDB Cluster.
- Knowledge of at least one computer language is a plus, with preference on C, C++ or Java.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- The ability to independently self-motivate while still being an active part of a team. This includes the ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- The ability to relate with and share knowledge at a level appropriate to the customer. That means that some higher-level experience (such as a degree) in some technical field (math, engineering, technology, or sciences) will come in handy. Life and prior work experiences will also contribute to this.
