Senior Technical Manager, Environmental Engineer
This Opportunity
WSP is currently seeking a Senior Technical Manager, Environmental Engineer who will be accountable for providing leadership, guidance, business generation, client development, and project management and delivery for Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) projects based out of our Durham, NC office. Work includes but is not limited to multi-site/phase environmental engineering work processes, due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting.
This role offers the opportunity to work with seasoned professionals and junior staff delivering complex projects across the Commercial/Industrial, Energy, Transportation, and Government sectors. With a local presence across the Carolinas, the team takes pride in maintaining a collaborative, supportive environment backed by the strength of a national network of experts.

WSP has a flexible, hybrid working model. This position should be based in the office for client, project, and team interaction. Preference is that the candidate is based in Durham, NC or within the Carolinas region. Some travel to other WSP and/or client locations is expected.
Your Impact
- Consult for federal, municipal, commercial, and industrial clients on environmental investigation and remediation projects
- Serve as a trusted advisor and client relationship manager, maintaining and expanding high-value client relationships
- Support the Service Line in sales, profitability, and business growth, meeting or exceeding budgeted metrics while ensuring integrity, safety, quality, and operational excellence
- Lead and contribute to business development activities, including capture planning, pipeline development, and proposal strategy
- Develop and manage proposal efforts and collaborate with project managers, technical specialists, and marketing teams to win new work and deliver client-focused solutions
- Identify and pursue local, regional, and national opportunities through WSP’s Client Account Management program to expand market
- Collaborate across disciplines and geographies to deliver integrated “One WSP” solutions that strengthen client outcomes and competitive positioning
- Help plan and execute business growth and market expansion strategies, identifying new services and emerging opportunities
- Engage in public outreach, marketing, and client communication to enhance WSP’s brand and visibility
- Deliver projects with a focus on quality, efficiency, and strong client experience
- Provide leadership and mentorship to staff, fostering development and promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and team growth
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making and promote WSP’s health and safety culture
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina (with ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed
- 10+ years of related experience
- Demonstrated experience in business development, client relationship management, and successful project delivery
- Proven success in proposal writing, capture strategy, and winning work
- Knowledge and experience with Federal and State (NC, VA) environmental regulatory programs
- Experience across multiple markets including Federal, Industrial, Commercial, Energy, and Transportation
- Strong technical expertise in environmental assessment and remediation, including contaminants and treatment technologies
- Demonstrated expertise in feasibility evaluation, remedial design, implementation, and long-term system operation
- Strong communication, negotiation, and client engagement skills
- Ability to balance technical leadership with commercial acumen and growth mindset
- Experience managing projects, budgets, and performance metrics using project management systems
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to company policies
- Must pass a drug screen, background check, and meet MVR requirements
