Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Underwriter on our Excess Casualty team.
Our Excess Casualty team brings extensive expertise and maintains strong, long-standing relationships with our broker partners. What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and manage a profitable long-term Excess Casualty Liability portfolio while enhancing broker and client relationships to identify and establish new distribution opportunities.
- Underwrite, price, and negotiate accounts in alignment with the company’s strategy and risk appetite, while applying independent judgment and discretion in assessing and evaluating risk.
- Coordinate all stages of the underwriting process such as marketing, risk analysis, evaluating and prioritizing submissions, underwriting strategy, pricing programs and submissions, contract negotiation and contract maintenance.
- Work with the Actuarial department through the rating process.
- Assist with strategic planning by developing and maintaining suitable management information to effectively evaluate the portfolio.
- Identify and drive new product development opportunities, including working proactively with other underwriting teams to identify and capitalize on cross sell opportunities.
What you’ll bring:
- 5-7 years re/insurance industry experience within underwriting and/or broking preferred. (Preference will be given to those with experience in excess liability and/or umbrella liability).
- Bachelor’s/University degree preferred and completion or progress toward CPCU or ACII designation is ideal.
- Ability to work extended hours when necessary and willingness to be in the market on a regular basis with some overnight travel.
- Experience managing complex casualty risk-managed accounts, with preferred knowledge of and hands-on experience with Bermuda Market Excess Casualty forms, U.S. Umbrella Liability forms, and standard Follow Form Occurrence and Claims Made forms.
Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
