Senior Video Editor-Big Business
Business Insider is hiring a Senior Editor to join Big Business, the company's most-watched documentary series about the world's most fascinating and newsworthy industries—from retail and transportation to military and defense, technology, and more. The series is driven by striking visuals, compelling characters, and emotionally resonant storytelling.
The Senior Editor will shape Big Business episodes from start to finish while consistently meeting tight production deadlines. You have excellent instincts for YouTube-first storytelling, making thoughtful decisions about pacing, graphics, music, and scene-building.
You have experience as a video journalist in a newsroom, thrive in a collaborative environment, and are familiar with Business Insider's journalism. We're looking for someone excited to evolve the Big Business style, experiment with new storytelling approaches, and expand our coverage. We value creativity, accountability, curiosity, and a diversity of ideas and perspectives.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Is capable of delivering multiple documentary edits each quarter.
- Has experience in the Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere and After Effects.
- Can find creative solutions to problems that arise.
- Has experience in documentary or journalistic video production.
- Has excellent storytelling judgment: Brings creative ideas that elevate narrative structure, increase viewer engagement, and strengthen the quality and impact of our journalism.
- Has excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate.
- Can manage deadlines and has organizational skills.
- Has a proven visual sensibility.
- Has a meticulous focus on accuracy, fairness, and journalism standards.
- Has shooting skills with professional Canon and Sony cameras (this is a plus, but not required).
- Has producing and research skills: digging for visual source material that will elevate a story
Key Responsibilities
- Edit Big Business episodes from start to finish while consistently meeting tight production deadlines.
- Craft episodes for maximum impact and audience retention, making key decisions on pacing, music, and scene-building to keep viewers engaged.
- Help the Big Business team maintain efficient, scalable editing workflows and best practices.
- Collaborate with producers, animators, and managers to deliver high-quality video journalism that succeeds on YouTube and other platforms.

This role is union-eligible and is based in New York City or San Francisco, with an in-office expectation of three days a week.

- Salary range: $80,000-$90,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
