Service Advisor- Reconditioning Lead
The Service Advisor - Reconditioning Lead, is responsible for managing the complete used truck reconditioning process. This position ensures trucks are repaired efficiently, cost effectively, and to the appropriate standard based on inventory type and market demand.
The Recon Advisor works closely with internal service, parts, body shop, sales, and management teams, as well as outside vendors, to coordinate inspections, repairs, transportation, and inventory readiness. This role serves as the primary point of accountability for truck tracking, reconditioning costs, turnaround times, and overall vehicle quality.
Reconditioning Management
- Inspect incoming used truck inventory and identify repair requirements.
- Develop and manage reconditioning plans based on truck type, age, mileage, and intended market.
- Schedule and assign repair work to internal departments and outside vendors.
- Review service, body shop, paint, and vendor estimates for accuracy and cost effectiveness.
- Ensure repairs are completed correctly and within approved budgets.
- Track all reconditioning expenses and turnaround times.
- Identify opportunities to reduce reconditioning costs while maintaining vehicle quality.
- Ensure trucks meet Lakeside retail standards prior to sale.
Inventory Tracking and Coordination
- Maintain accurate status updates on all used truck inventory.
- Track truck location, repair status, estimated completion dates, and readiness for sale.
- Coordinate movement of trucks between Lakeside locations and outside vendors.
- Keep sales staff informed of repair progress and expected completion timelines.
- Assist with prioritizing inventory based on customer demand and sales opportunities.
Vehicle Inspection and Quality Control
- Perform inspections upon arrival and prior to retail release.
- Verify repairs have been completed correctly and meet Lakeside standards.
- Ensure vehicles are represented accurately in marketing and sales materials.
- Identify potential mechanical, cosmetic, or safety concerns before trucks are listed for sale.
Sales and Marketing Support
- Photograph inventory and upload vehicle photos.
- Enter and verify vehicle specifications and equipment details.
- Assist with vehicle descriptions and listing accuracy.
- Support sales staff with truck information, repair status, and customer requests.
Process Improvement and Vendor Management
- Build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external vendors.
- Monitor vendor performance, pricing, and turnaround times.
- Recommend process improvements to reduce costs and improve inventory turn.
- Advise the Used Truck Manager on market conditions, vehicle values, repair strategies, and inventory decisions.
- Valid CDL required.
- 3+ years of commercial truck, diesel, service, fleet, or dealership experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of heavy-duty and medium-duty truck systems.
- Experience reviewing repair estimates and maintenance recommendations.
- Ability to balance cost control with retail vehicle quality standards.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, CRM systems, inventory management software, and dealership systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
