Job Description
Role Purpose
The SDM for Record to Report (Product Costing & Inventory Valuation) is responsible for driving end-to-end global service delivery for product costing and inventory accounting, ensuring accurate inventory valuation, cost allocation, and financial reporting in line with accounting standards, SLAs, and control frameworks. This role combines deep domain expertise in manufacturing finance with leadership capabilities to manage global stakeholders, drive transformation, and ensure high-quality delivery outcomes across large-scale operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and lead global end-to-end product costing and inventory valuation service delivery, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting across entities, regions, and business units.
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to inventory and costing.
- Review and approve complex journal entries related to inventory valuation, cost allocations, and variance postings in ERP systems.
- Drive high-quality inventory valuation processes, including FIFO-based valuation, NRV adjustments, provisioning, and reserve management.
- Own and drive standard costing frameworks, including cost roll-ups, cost updates, and validation of cost structures across plants and entities.
- Provide leadership on cost variance analysis (PPV, usage variance, production variance), driving insights into cost drivers and margin impact.
- Manage large-scale production and inventory environments, handling high volumes of data (SKU, plant, warehouse level) with strong governance controls.
- Ensure overall integrity, accuracy, and completeness of inventory balances, costing outputs, and financial reporting.
- Own SLA outcomes, service delivery performance, and costing accuracy, ensuring adherence to quality and timelines.
- Drive governance and take decisions on complex costing methodologies, valuation approaches, and financial adjustments.
- Lead and manage large teams, ensuring performance management, succession planning, talent development, and retention.
- Actively manage critical escalations related to costing discrepancies, inventory valuation issues, and financial risks.
- Establish and drive a culture of ownership, accountability, and delivery excellence across product costing operations.
Governance, Controls & Compliance
- Establish and enforce global costing and inventory valuation governance frameworks and control mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls, accounting standards (IFRS / US GAAP), and inventory valuation requirements.
- Review and approve key inventory balances, costing models, and financial outputs for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure audit readiness, including validation of costing assumptions, inventory reserves, and reconciliation documentation.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a trusted advisor to client stakeholders, CFO organization, plant controllers, and global finance leadership.
- Own client relationships, service performance discussions, and escalation management related to costing and inventory processes.
- Drive governance forums, business reviews, and performance discussions with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, FP&A, and operations teams to ensure alignment and issue resolution.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead global transformation initiatives in product costing and inventory valuation, including automation, analytics, and digital finance solutions.
- Drive standardization and optimization of costing models, inventory valuation processes, and reporting frameworks.
- Identify root causes of costing inefficiencies, inventory discrepancies, and reconciliation gaps, and implement corrective actions.
- Improve accuracy, efficiency, and cycle time for inventory close and costing processes.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for all the activities related to month end closing & reporting.
- Perform day-to-day operational oversight including product costing, inventory accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, reporting, audit requests, and ad hoc analyses.
- Review and approve journal entries related to inventory valuation, cost allocations, and variance postings with accuracy and adherence to timelines.
- Preparation and review of inventory and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely clearance of reconciling items.
- Ensure execution and governance of standard costing and inventory valuation processes (FIFO, NRV).
- Ensure resolution of inventory discrepancies, variances, and open items through strong cross-functional coordination.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and contribute to continuous improvement in costing and inventory valuation processes.
Minimum qualifications
- Relevant years of experience in accounting or related financial processes with deep expertise in product costing and inventory valuation.
- ICWA / CMA with strong exposure to manufacturing or production accounting environments.
- Strong and proven experience in standard costing, cost roll-ups, variance analysis, and inventory valuation methodologies.
- Deep understanding of inventory valuation (FIFO, NRV, provisioning, reserves).
- Experience in manufacturing / plant accounting environments.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office applications, especially Excel (handling large datasets and financial analysis).
- Experience in ERP systems such as SAP (CO/MM preferred).
- Proven experience in leading large teams, managing stakeholders, and delivering complex finance operations.
Preferred additional Skills
- Strong expertise in product costing models, inventory accounting frameworks, and margin analysis.
- Experience in global manufacturing environments with high inventory volumes.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, audit frameworks, and compliance requirements.
- Exposure to automation, advanced analytics, and digital transformation initiatives (Power BI, AI tools).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
