Service Technician Apprentice

POSITION SUMMARY: Birkey's Farm Store, in collaboration with approved institutions, offers a comprehensive Service Technician Apprenticeship. This program combines academic coursework with hands-on experience, preparing apprentices for a rewarding career in agricultural and construction equipment service. Participants will receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science upon completion of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Learn how to inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and locate mechanical deficiencies on Heavy Equipment as assigned.
  2. Learn proper use of diagnostic equipment. Participate in training sessions and complete assigned coursework related to equipment systems, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
  3. Repair and/or replace all components of diesel engines, hydraulic, air conditioning, electrical, and suspension systems, drive trains, steering, braking, material handling, and operator comfort systems.
  4. Learn to read, analyze, and interpret technical information from schematics, technical manuals, drawings and procedures, and governmental regulations.
  5. Establish a knowledge of products, technology and models by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications.
  6. Class attendance and participation is mandatory.
  7. Work as part of a team, offering and seeking assistance when needed.
  8. Keep shop vehicles clean and serviced.
  9. Help maintain cleanliness, neatness and safety of personal workspace, building and lot.
  10. Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to company safety program at all times.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
