Primary Accountabilities
The Shop and Yard Technician supports the daily operations of the company by assisting with equipment maintenance, inspections, welding and fabrication projects, deliveries, inventory management, and general housekeeping. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that tools, equipment, vehicles, and facilities are maintained in a safe, organized, and operational condition to support field operations.
Major Duties
- Operate all company vehicles and equipment, including manual transmission vehicles, safely and in accordance with traffic laws and company policies.
- Deliver tools, equipment, materials, and supplies to job sites and company facilities.
- Perform basic welding, fabrication, and repair work on equipment, attachments, and shop assets.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment, trucks, trailers, tools, and safety equipment to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Assist with preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of company equipment and vehicles.
- Receive, tag, log, track, and maintain inventory records for all tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Utilize company-required technology tools, including tablets, computers, software programs, and mobile applications, to support daily operations, process tracking, and reporting.
- Complete inspection reports, maintenance records, and inventory documentation accurately and timely.
- Operate forklifts, trailers, and other shop equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe shop, warehouse, and equipment yard.
- Identify, report, and help correct safety hazards and equipment deficiencies.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and required PPE standards.
- Support shop operations and assist supervisors with additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required as noted below, CDL Class A or B preferred
- Ability to operate forklifts, trailers, tools, and shop equipment
- Basic welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Driver Qualification Requirements
Must meet all BHS/KCC driver qualification requirements, including:
- Be at least 18 years of age for interstate driving or meet federal minimum age requirements for interstate driving
- Pass a USDOT/FMCSA physical examination by a National Registry-certified medical examiner and maintain a current Medical Examiner's Certificate (Form MCSA-5876) on file
- Authorize a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check for the preceding three years, updated annually
- Complete a road test or demonstrate equivalent qualification through a valid CDL
- Submit to pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and maintain ongoing random testing compliance
Physical Requirements
- Frequently required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
- Required to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and shop tools.
- Required to wear and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hard hats, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
Work Environment:
- Professional, deadline orientated
- Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
- Exposure to wet and /or humid conditions; mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold; extreme heat.
- The noise level in work environment is usually low to moderate in the office and moderate to high in the field.
