Site Health & Safety Specialist

In this role, you will serve as the primary safety resource on site, partnering with project teams to promote a strong safety culture through leadership, coaching, education, and proactive risk management.
You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, supporting project planning and execution, delivering safety programs and training, leading incident investigations, and maintaining accurate safety documentation. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and influential safety professional who is passionate about protecting people, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture where every worker goes home safely each day.
- Ensure all duties are performed in compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and the Chandos Construction Safety Manual.
- Clearly communicate safety roles and responsibilities to all site personnel.
- Conduct site safety orientations for workers and visitors, ensuring understanding of hazards, controls, and site-specific requirements.
- Provide regular, constructive, and respectful feedback to employees and supervisors.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the Chandos Safety Manual, policies, and safe work procedures.
- Facilitate, deliver, and support the Chandos Safety Program at the site level.
- Promote and sustain a positive safety culture among all personnel on site.
- Act as the primary safety steward for the site, proactively identifying and addressing hazards and risks.
- Provide guidance to field staff on occupational health and safety requirements and best practices.
- Support construction management with project startup safety planning, reporting structures, and safe constructability input.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site-specific safe work procedures.
- Lead incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
- Deliver and coordinate weekly safety meetings, daily toolbox talks, and safety training sessions.
- Maintain safety certifications and stay informed of industry advancements and OH&S regulatory changes.
- Identify potential hazards and recommend practical solutions to mitigate risks.
- Coach and support managers and employees in the application of safety programs and practices.
- Participate in company-led training initiatives as required.
- Assist with training delivery where qualified.
- Maintain working knowledge of modified work and return-to-work programs.
- Manage the administration and control of all site safety documentation, including THAs, weekly safety submissions, inspections, training records, incident reports, permits, and compliance records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a related field
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset
- 5+ years of varied construction safety experience. Commercial, Industrial
- Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations

Compensation Transparency
Expected Salary: $100,000 to $130,000 CAD Annual Salary
The base salary range for this role is listed above and may vary based on your experience.
